I had surgery on right hand may 2001. I still have deep itching in that hand, and also in left hand, where DC seemed to have been activated after that surgery.

Just to add to the information, when I was taking the supplement Glucosamine, my hands developed several lumps and a cord. During this time, there was constant itching.
Every day itching, never stopped.
Then I stopped the supplements, the itching stopped, and the lumps stopped the rapid growth. So, I think the itching means the Dupuytren's is progressing and getting worse. Just my opinion.

The excised palmar fascia of 11 patients with Dupuytren's disease was separated clinically into nodules and cords. Myofibroblasts were seen by light and electron microscopy in each of the nodules, but the cords generally lacked myofibroblasts. Only one cord specimen had microscopic features that were intermediate between nodule and cord. Electron microscopy demonstrated that in vivo differences between myofibroblasts from nodules and fibroblasts from cords and control skin samples could be preserved in vitro. Growth studies showed slower growth of cultured myofibroblasts (mean +/- SD generation time 68.7 +/- 15 h) than cord-derived fibroblasts (mean +/- SD generation time 51.5 +/- 0.9 h). These data suggest that the life cycle of the myofibroblasts from Dupuytren's disease nodules differs from that of fibroblasts found in cordlike tissues. These myofibroblasts have biological characteristics nearly identical to those of myofibroblasts found in other contracting tissues, such as granulating wounds and breast cancer

Having read the previous post, I am thinking that my shoulder pain started about the time 6-7 years ago when I entered a clinical trial for prevention of breast cancer for high risk women. As I entered late in the trials, the code was broken when it appeared tamoxifen helped prevent breast cancer. I was supplied with the tamoxifen for 5 years. It was about the same time that my shoulder was starting to hurt that a nodule was starting on my left middle finger, which I had surgery on last year. I never connected the two symptons! The finger healed beautifully from the traditional surgery but the shoulder froze and after therapy and exercise it still hurts.
I am really wondering now if there is a link.

To Elisabeth (though my response comes a little late):
Tamoxifen is actually considerd as a drug against Dupuytren (for more information you might e.g. check www.dupuytren-online.info and there "Other therapies", it's the third therapy). I would not expect Tamoxifen to foster Dupuytren growth, but that is only my personal opinion.
