Itching

I am 43 and have had the problem since I was 20. I have Dupuytrens in both hands but only my Right hand itches. This is also the hand that has the most aggressive contracture. I was advised to take PABA (para aminobenzoic acid). I take 2 x 500mg tablets a day and when taking the tablets my itching stops. My contracture also seems to be held in check. If I don't take the capsules my hand starts itching quite quickly.

Deep Tissue Itching

Jim,

The items in question are all collagen producers; therefore not to be used by those suffering with D/C.

Answer
Deep Tissue Itching

Itching of the hands are usually caused by an influx of collagen that is attempting to heal. Therefore we have to avoid any collagen inducing product.

Immerse the hands in hot (not scalding) water if itch is troublesome. It should stop. Just don't succumb to scratching; it may exacerbate your condition.

Answer
dupuytren~sq~s contracture Disease

I just found out that I have this disease and it is in both of my hands, starting in the left hand first with the itching. My fingers hurts along with my hands and my little finger on the left hand is pulling down to the palm of my hand.I just turn 60 this year but have been having this problem for many years but did not what it was until it got this bad and my Neurologist saw my hand.I have also had two frozen shoulder's in the past 10 years, that was at the same time the itching started in my hand.I also have lower back problems so this just add's to my list.I do not know what to do, I do not do well with surgery.

My hands also burn sometimes on the top and the bottom and my feet I believe its in my feet also...HELP.
Do you know if anyone else has had frozen shoulder's with D C Disease?

Frozen Shouler & DD

Juanita:

Yes, I too have had frozen shouler & DD.

I suspect that there is some common causality at work, but that is only a hunch.

Hi Juanita,

Mark's hunch (and yours) is correct. There is a strong association between Dupuytrens and Frozen Shoulder.

It's admittedly daunting to read through all the posts on this forum, but if you scan down the main topics you'll see some that relate specifically to F.S. and Dups.

Also you'll see many references here to Needle Aponeurotomy (N.A.) I'll e-mail you a list of physicians in the U.S. who offer this option. Please refer to some of the websites on the list and become educated about N.A. before you make a decision how to proceed.

I wish you the best in dealing with this disturbing condition.
