Update on 3 month mark

RE: Lecithin

This morning hubby looked at his hands and out of the blue told me he thinks the progression has halted.

We aren't holding our breath because DC is so unpredictable....but hey....we'll take what we can get.

Answer
did those trying Lecithin have contracture?

I am wondering if it may just halt further progression of the disease and not reverse it...could those taking lecithin for a while elaborate of what stage they are in when they started taking it?

Answer
B-Eddie question

How long did you try it for and did the disease progress more or just not improve during that time? What does were you taking? Thanks in advance for more info.

Another Update

Hubby ran out of Lecithin about three weeks ago and decided to 'take a break from it to see if anything happens'....nothing was different for the first two weeks without the Lecithin, but this week....the pain/stiffness in the morning has returned.

Now I must remind you...hubby's situation is not severe, the stiffness and pain in the morning have never been enough to take medication.

He is going back on Lecithin tomorrow and I will update you if/when the pain/stiffness goes away.

Update

Hi all,

Hubby's hands are actively curling again. It has been over three years since NA so this is not unexpected. The return of DC produced frustration in hubby so he was not diligent with taking Lecithin regularly so I can not give you a good update. I reminded him of the Lecithin about a week ago so he started taking it again, but I haven't asked him how his hands feel because I know he is disappointed...the nuckle pads are forming again...the callouses are returning and spliting...left pinkie now has a 10% curve and the middle finger looks like it is going to turn right over....the cords in his hands are taught and thickening.

I think that he was secretly hoping the Lecithin would take it away completely. Right from the outset we agreed not to expect that...to just hope for a slight change....I guess he hoped for more....and I can understand that.

Anyways, sad story aside...I think we got what we wanted and what we looked for...a slight change...that being a relief from the morning pain....when he calms down a little I get him back to taking it regularly.

Would I take Lecithin if I were a DC sufferer? Yes, it's just food. Lecithin is not a cure...we all know that...but now that we've done this...I would guard against harbouring a secret hope that Lecithin is the answer. It is not.

What Lecithin is however...is something that for some people might produce a slight change.

Good luck to all.

Answer
something to try

Been dealing with this for quite a few years now and the one thing I've found that helps is to rub in some vitamin E oil. It won't reverse the disease but for me, it relieves the discomfort and stiffness. Might be just the oil itself, not the vitamin E, who knows - but if you can get your husband to try this for a few days, see if it doesn't improve his mood.

Lecithin

Lecithin is found in every living cell. Lecithin is a natural anti-oxidant and a powerful nutritional factor. Lecithin discovered in 1805 and mostly derived from common egg yolk or from naturally taking place phospholipids derived from soybeans. Lecithin Contains Choline & Inositol which are essential for the breakdown of fats and cholesterol. It helps prevent arterial congestion, helps distribute bodyweight, increases immunity to virus infections, cleans the liver and purifies the kidneys.
