Answer 		Lumps in Palms

I have several lumps in my right palm that are becoming a general thickening with various nodules developing beyond the existing lumps. In addition, my hand is painful and very tight. When I try to open my hand fully I can feel a tightness all across my palm and into my fingers. I do not seem to have any specific finger that is contracted.

My question is - what are my treatment options at this point? Not having contracture, what can be done about these lumps and the tightness? I understand that the stage that I am experiencing is not as serious as a contracture, but my hands are painful and I am limited in what I can use them for. My left hand also has a large nodule that is spreading. The pain and tightness actually wakes me up at night.

I guess you have already consulted a doctor. If not, that's the first thing to do because several diseases are causing nodules in the hand and only a doctor can diagnose what you are suffering from. No way via the Internet.

If you actually have early stage Dupuytren then you have several options (for an overview see www.dupuytren-online.info): first, do nothing and wait until you develop a contracture, then have NA. If you don't want to wait, you might either have radiation therapy (slows down the progress, in favourable cases even removes nodules) or you might experiment with nutrition (some people report improvements when eating food with high percentage of antioxidants, like lots of tomatoes) or experiment with NAC (a low cost medication, originally developed for other diseases, that seems to affect one of the key tumor growth factors).

You need to be aware that Dupuytren patients react individually on therapies. What works well for one patient might have less effect on another. Radiation therapy is pretty well established though not in the US. NA is now well available in the US. The drug NAC is probably available worldwide, it has been is use for about 40 years by now, though its effect on Dupuytren was only discovered recently.

Thanks, Wolfgang.Yes, I have been diagnosed with DD. I am interested in the use of NAC and have researched based on your mention of it. I find it available to purchase as capsules. What I cannot seem to find is the dosage and frequency suggested for treatment. I appreciate any information and will share any that I have.
