Xiaflex for Ledderhose

I am interested in any information on Xiaflex as a enzyme injection for the treatment of Ledderhose It was recently approved by the FDA for the treatment of dupuytren contracture and it is my understanding that dupuytren and Ledderhose are very similar. The reports I have been reading indicate favorable results for dupuyren when treated with Xiaflex.

Is there reason to believe that Xiaflex will become a successful 'off lable' treatment for Ledderhose? It will definitely be "off label" because the expense of getting FDA approval will not justify the maker of Xiaflex getting it approved.

Thanks

Re: Xiaflex for Ledderhose

someone with more expertise can answer better but my understanding of what I've read is that Ledderhose disease is more about nodules and less about contracture, that is a little different than DD. Xiaflex is a treatment for cords and the related contractures, so I'm thinking it would not be considered for nodular treatment. If you had contractures of the toes, it might be an option.

David, thanks for your response. I agree that from what I have read, DD is more of a cord issue versus nodule.

Peyronie Disease (which as I understand is a plaque build up) may be more similar to Ledderhose than DD. Xiaflex is current;ly in stage 2 of FDA approval for Peyronie Disease. If Xiaflex is successful with Peyronie as well, it is probably only a matter of time until someone tries it on Ledderhose.

It is also my understanding that Ledderhose is basically collagen, and Xiaflex is bacterial collagenase which attacks collagen.
