wach:
A second opinion to confirm your diagnosis will certainly not hurt. But your palm looks pretty much like Dupuytren's, and the middle joint of your little finger is contracted.

Wolfgang

Thank you very much for your input. It's helping me untangle the whole issue. I'm new to this forum and have a lot to learn and understand.

Doctor claimed injections would damage your hands. ??? what type of injections. I assume he was not referring to steroid injections,as steroid injections into nodules have proven at times to provide be rather benificial, if my research is correct.

I believe he meant collagenase injections - I thought that was the only treatment by injection for dupuytren's.

Some Drs will treat sore inflamed nodules with a type of steroid injection, with some degree of success, for some.

Yes, I agree with Wolfgang...your little finger shows contracture. I would find out, ASAP, if RT is still possible. The doctor gave me a steroid shot in my nodule 3 weeks prior to my radiation. It helped with the pain. Today, my hand has no contracture and the nodule has disappeared. You can barely see the cord! I was told that it would remain, but it’s benign. You need to act quickly, if your DD is aggressive. RT saved my hand. I have had no issues, and it’s been 7 years since my treatment.
Best of luck to you,
Lori

Hand Surgeons in the USA don’t want you to know about RT- that is how they treat DD in Europe. You can find doctors in the USA that know the protocol and will do the treatment. Read about Radio Therapy on this site. Multiple, debilitating surgeries are a hand doctors “bread and butter,” so to speak. Sorry, I was disgusted with the first one I went to see. She told me, “When your fingers start to contract, we can do a cord release.” I told her I was considering RT and her reaction was visceral! I shouldn’t be so cynical, but I didn’t want to go down that road. My uncle and another family member had DD, and seeing what happened to their hands, after all the surgeries, made me sick. Please know that there is more information available.

Thank you for your advise, Lori-T. Indeed, RT was not even mentioned to me by the hand surgeon [he only mentioned the 3 other possible treatments]. I found 2 radio-oncologists who will perform RT here in Montreal. It might take some time to get an appointment though...

The doctor said my nodules were too thick for NA treatment... So isn't it also too late for RT? >>> From Canadian Dupuytren's Society: "Radiation therapy is sometimes considered to stop or slow down the process if applied in early nodular stages. If the condition is more severe, treatment with medication or a minor procedure called a needle fasciotomy may be recommended."
