Help Needed
I have Dupuytren's contraction which is affecting my little finger on my right hand. I live in New York City and I need an excellent surgeon who can advise me on the best treatment. I have some insurance but am having a terrible time finding a doctor within the insurance plan because there are 88 hand surgeons listed but I don't know anything about any of them. This is my right hand and I am right handed. If anyone can recommend a good Dupuytren's Dr. in NYC, please would you contact me?

Welcome to the forum
There are a few doctors in NY doing NA listed on our treatment centre page http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list_North_America.html and no doubt hand surgery too.
In the past patients have exchanged info about surgeons, try using our search box; I did a quick one and came up with this older thread http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...city-0_498.html as an example.
Have you considered the possibility of NA or Xiaflex? These are mostly the treatment of choice for a contracture before surgery.
Best wishes
SB

Re: Help Needed
Thank you so, so much for your prompt reply. I'll check out those websites. What is NA?
And yes, I will go to see a consultant before rushing into surgery. I would far rather have a less invasive treatment if my hand is eligible for it. The contracture is not too terrible, but the nodules are nasty.

Re: Help Needed
If you have no or very little contracture, surgery, NA and Xiaflex will not be the right treatment for you. They only apply to bent fingers. You find details about these treatments on this website. Just go to the above menu, click on "Treatment" and select the treatment you are interested in.
Maybe radiotherapy could be an option but that depends on how active your disease is and how long you already had the nodules.

Re: Help Needed
When I say "not significant" I have a pinkie contraction of about 45 degrees. But there is little pain, I can still type and do regular chores so at the moment it's not invasive. I just think I need to seek advise on how to proceed. RT scares me but Xiaflex is sounding like a possible option.
I think I will just bite the bullet and go and see Dr. Raskin as a private patient for a consultation. His name is coming up again and again and when one is talking about one's right hand on a right handed person, I'm thinking it's worth it.
Thanks so much for your input. This site is very helpful.
Regards
Mel
