Can Glucosamine and/or Condritin promote Dupuytrens??

I have Dupuytrens in both hands and also have osteoarthritis in both knees. My Dupuytrens was progresing very slowly until I started taking a 600mg/400mg Glucosamine/Condritin combination for my knee problem. I now have no pain in my knees, but my Dupoytrens accelerated significantly. I stopped taking the G/C, and Dupuytrens has slowed down its progression.
What concerns me about a possible connection is that as I understand it G/C may promote the buildup of cartilage partly by stimulating the formation of collagen.

If Collagenase is being used to breakdown the collagen that binds the Dupuytrens cord, would a substance that stimulates the formation of collagen stimulate the progression of a partially collagen based condition such as Dupuytrens.

Does this mean that the use of G/C poses a possible negative side effect for those predisposed to Dupuytrens and other connective tissue conditions?

Since treatment seems to be the only area of focus that I have found, I wonder if anyone else has had an experience similar to mine or has heard of any connection.

Glucosamine and Dups/frozen shoulder

I really think you are on to something here. Let me tell you my story. I'm 54, male and my first experience of a collagen related disease was a frozen right shoulder 10yrs ago. This went after about 6 months but then I noticed the first signs of Dup's. pits in the palm of my left hand. The disease progressed slowly but did eventually require surgery 5 yrs ago and just before this I noticed it in my right hand. This also required surgery two years ago. Things remained stable until Feb this year when a very severe frozen right shoulder came on more or less overnight. I also noticed that the Dup in the little finger of my right hand had become very aggressive and within 6 weeks had bent thro' 90 degrees! I had surgery(successfully) in July to correct this and am now waiting to go back for surgery on my left hand which is becoming a real mess (dup affecting 3 fingers). Now to the interesting part. My wife suffers from joint pain and had seen a newspaper article in January singing the praises of Glucosamine and had bought some. At the time I was suffering from stiff ankles when I first got out of bed resulting in me walking about like a penguin for 10 minutes. I took the glucosamine for about two weeks and am now convinced that this was the trigger that caused all my recent problems

Glucosamine

I have to add my 2 Cents into the subject of Glucosamine. I also started with Glucosamine a couple of years ago and shortly thereafter noticed the fingers of my left hand rapidly bending. I couldn't put my finger (sorry, couldn't resist the Pun)on the situation immediately, but stopped popping the item.

YES, I believe we are on to something.

Glucosamine/Collagen and Dupuytren~sq~s

I'm wondering if there is a correlation here! I started taking 550 mg/day Glucosamine last year hoping to slow the progress of osteoporosis. I'm 60 and during a routine bone density test 2 years ago, it was determined that I've had some bone loss (called osteopenia at this stage) and was prescribed Didrocal. This spring, my daughter's Naturopath suggested that I should add Collagen capsules to my regime of Glucosamine which I have done. I noticed a nodule forming near the base of my little finger on my right hand last year. About 2 months ago, I noticed that not only do I have this nodule but this finger has started to bend towards the palm of my hand and I cannot straighten it. In 4 weeks, I see a Plastic Surgeon who will determine if this is Dupuytren's Contracture and will advise treatment. I'm certainly going to this appointment armed with the information that I've gleaned from this discussion forum which has been extremely helpful to me since I'd never heard of this condition. I've stopped taking both glucosmaine and collagen and will definitely be checking this site for any further postings regarding a link between Glucosamine and Dupuytrens.

Glucosamine & Vitamin C

The following site also mentions the intake of Glucosamine & vitamin C pertaining to Peyronie's Disease which is akin to Dupuytren's.

I have had some Topical Verapamil prescribed & have diligently been applying it for about 1 week.

I will report upon completion of the prescription.

dupuytren after carpal tunnel surgery

Several people have posted here after obtaining topical Verapamil from PDL. But to my knowledge, none of them ever came back later and said "it worked". I hope you're the first!

dupuytren after carpal tunnel surgery

Nine weeks after carpal tunnel surgery, I developed dupuytren in the same hand. I have also been taking Glucosamine for approximately 10 weeks -- 500mg tablets 3 times a day. The glucosamine has helped joints, but am now wondering if there is a correlation between dupuytren and glucosamine. Also has anyone heard of a correlation between dupuytren and carpal tunnel surgery.

Carpal & Hand Trauma

Yes! I personally know individuals that have developed Dupuytren's after Carpal as well as other hand and/or arm surgeries and injuries. Most Physicians still adhere to the age old theory that Dupuytren's is 100% genetic.

They would become enlightened if they read some of the Forum postings.

glucosamine and carpal tunnel

My DC showed up three months after carpal tunnel surgery. I was also taking Glucosamine for a bad knee, which I have stopped taking and the growth of the nodules appears to have slowed down. My orthopaedic surgeon says there is no correlation between the surgery and the DC, I'm not so sure.

Dupuytrens and frozen shoulder and Glucosamine/Condritin

This is really sounding interesting...I started out with taking Gluc/Cond and after about 4 months my right shoulder froze up(Adhesive Capsulitis), soon after DC showed up in my right hand. Right shoulder is almost back to normal (it's been one year)...and my left hand now has DC and my left shoulder is frozen!!!! Doc's want to do surgery, I say NO...I've read tooo much! Would love to know if there is something to this Gluc/Cond coralation with both DC and Frozen shoulder!!!
