Collagenase trials

The BSTC web site page for Dupuytren is dated 1997. Dan we get an update? What were the results of the clinical trials for collagenase? Did BSTC receive FDA approval? Can we expect to see it soon?

As far as I can see BSTC isn't saying anything publicly about current trials. Nor do they respond to postings on this forum. I wish someone could figure out how to get some current information but I'm stumped.

Stanford Trials

There are apparently collagenase trials going on at Stanford, as well. But I don't know who the trials are for, or what the timelines are.

I, too, wish that BSTC would provide an update on the trials in New York. Some news is better than no news.

I am at the point where the surgeon I consulted with told me he'd operate on my hand if I wanted... but he also advised me to wait as long as I could to see if something happens with the injections.

He's a hand surgeon and was not interested in removing the damn painful lumps from my feet. That sucked.

Collagenase

Was he pessimistic about Collagenase - did he think BSTC might not get all the way to market, or that it might turn out not to work very well in the long term?

Collagenase

No, the surgeon was optimistic about collagenase... to the point of suggesting I put off the operation for as long as I could on the chance that the injections would become available. He had only read about the trials, and had no idea who BSTC is.

He also told me not to let the dupuytrens grow up past the first joint of my little finger, since it makes removing it more difficult. So I guess that's my deadline for surgery... when it gets to the first joint (about 5 mm. more).

It's odd how my dupuytrens seems to grow in aggressive bursts.

Collagenase

Just noticed another confirmation that any help from the Stony Brook trials are at least a couple of years out from being publically available...

This is an excerpt from a 2/5/01 post on the "stopping dupuytrens" thread in this forum:

>I received a letter from Stony Brook today that said they >are having success with collagense injections...but the >FDA will not approve this treatment for two more years! >JUST OUR LUCK! Why aren't others doing this study in other >places in the states?

Collagenase-Other Countries?

I am new to this group and would appreciate knowing whether there are any countries in which Colagenase is approved for use. If so what are they.
Thank you

Surgery

Well, I'm off to see a plastic surgeon this Thurs. (4/10/01), for a consultation. From what I've read, this is the way to go ... they (plastics) can remove all of the infected tissue, and get rid of the stuff. I also have advice from a doctor friend of my dad, who said "if" opting for surgery, do it right away. Then he also said that I might want to try some of the alternatives like vit. E, vit. B6, and DMSO, to stave it off until the callogenase treatments are available. Who knows? Maybe just cut my hand off and be done with the problem.

I'm close enough to Stanford to travel there periodically. Does anyone have contact information for the clinical trials going on there?

SunnyBrook trials on Dupuytrens

The last posts were in April, 2001. Does anyone know what the latest status is of the trials on Collagenase and are these the ones Dr. Hurst is doing? Is there anything we can do to either speed up the trials or get FDA approval sooner? Has anyone found another country where Collagenase may be available?

Thank you.

Dupuytren~sq~s

Hi Dan, I just found this forum yesterday, but I've had DC for several years. It is bad in my right hand and starting in the left. I have surgery scheduled in December with Dr. Zsabo at UCMed Ctr, Sacramento. He is supposed to be very good. Am wondering if I should postpone incase something like Collagenase might cure or help.

Did you have any luck with this alternative? Thanks for any help.

P.S. I have Irish decendants. I drink alcohol daily and am 59 years old (female). Also have cramps in feet at night but no nodules there yet. I take Vit. E & C, calcium, magnesium, multi-vit.
