Foot Surgery IS POSSIBLE!

Cyndy

I have had surgery on both feet to remove "Plantar Fibromas" (2 ops on one foot and 1 op on the other)

Whoever the doctor that says there is nothing he can do for you is either very anal retentive or incompetent (or both)

Find yourself another (orthopedic) surgeon - someone who knows what he/she is talking about; who knows something about this situation and go for the surgery.

My former job required a great deal of walking and I know what you're talking about when you speak of how painfull it is.

Bersitis

Miriam,

I am in Woodinville WA not far from Redmond. I have DC and LD. My hand surgeons here have been Dr T Boyce and Dr E Nortg (the latter is in Kirkland). They both seem quite knowledgeable and competent. Dr Boyce is now in Everett.

I have not had surgery yet on feet. I had seen an orthopedic surgeon once (Dr Clark I think) but haven't been back for a while. I am now seeing a Podiatrist in Woodinville, (Dr Moore) who is trying various things. I am getting fitted for orthotics now. I have tried physical therapy to no avail. Im will post later to tell you all if anything works.

Miriam, please write if you want at jacksuzanne@yahoo.com

Bersitis

Hi,

I was diagnosed with Bersitis in my hip and upperleg joint. This is extremely painful....I can't walk for too long because the pain shoots into my entire leg. Also, when I get up abruptly, you can hear a loud snapping noise. I have been to the doctor and was told to take physio and basically deal with it, as there is nothing that can be done for me. Does anyone know anything more about this? Please reply.

question

Question for all the LD-ers:

What is the worst condition that this disease can progress to that you have experienced, or heard anyone relate. The questions is two-fold: 1) without surgery, and 2) after surgery.

I experience pain when walking, but how bad can this get? Does the foot actually curl under so you wan't walk? Does it end in requiring wheelchair or? What is the worst case scenario?

I'm not trying to frighten anyone, I just think it helps us make decisions about surgery, and make future plans, if we have an idea about this.

Thanks,

Jack

2 surgerys done

Hi
I have had 2 sugerys on my left foot and 2 on my right hand, the fibromas have returned, except my right foot which was free of it now has 4 separate large fibromas.
the left foot has a large semi golf ball size fibroma, which is quite painful at times and makes it difficult to walk.has anyone used the verapamil topically with good results, or is there any other treatment other than surgery that I have posibaly missed.
Thanks
Mark

Maseur innersoles

If you haven't tried the Maseur innersoles or sandals, you need to. They are cheap and allow you to walk with a huge reduction in pain.

I ordered them at www.foottherapy.com

Dupy left hand, left foot

Hi! I'm a 48 yr old woman. Have dupy in left hand and left foot. Hand is affecting middle finger. Not curling yet, but cord is THICK and only 2 inches long. Noticed it at 40. I have a slow grower. Foot is a different story. The pain is terrific! Thanks to Cyndy and Jack(?) for their recommendations. I will try both as it hurts like hell to walk. I am actually most comfortable in a heel as it forces the arch up and my nodule doesn't touch anything. It's the size of a walnut. I hate operations, and wasn't even considering it as my sister has had three. She is 50. Both hands, both feet. Surgery unsuccessful on her feet, but no grafts were done. She has severe thickening of the skin near her toes, and cords on 4 toes. Very, very painful. Thank you all for starting this. I will recommend this site to my sis. My Dad has both hands, no feet. We are first generation U.S. from Hungary.

Ledderhose Disease

Linda,
Interesting information. I am wondering about cords (and contraction) in the feet. It is my understanding that generally there are no cords or contraction in the feet, only nodules. Has anyone else heard of contraction and cords in the feet? It is pretty much a consensus of opinion that surgery on the feet (arches) should be a very last resort.

Dupuytren~sq~s diagnosis

I am so happy I found this site. I was just diagnosed with Dupuytren's contractions this morning. I had carpal tunnel surgery in January 2003 and within two months noticed the nodules developing on my hand. After seeing three different doctors, I finally found one who knew what has been causing this pain in my hand along with the fact that I still have carpal tunnel. The surgery didn't work on the carpal tunnel problem. I also have developed a trigger finger of my little pinky.

I, too, have been having problems with my feet for the past two years and no doctor has been able to tell me what could be going on. I didn't bring my feet up to the doctor I saw this morning because I didn't realize that my feet problems could possibly be related to Dupuytren's.

My question is - does anyone get painful contractions in their toes, similar to the trigger finger. I get severe cramps in my toes where they curl under and they feel like one great big muscle cramp. They only way I can releive the crampy like feeling is to try to stretch my toes in the opposite direction. My mother had the same problem with her feet. I also have severe pain in the tops of my feet in the mornings as soon as my feet hit the floor which disappears after walking around a little but recurs any time that I am sitting and get up to walk around. Could these problems be related to Dupuytran's syndrome?
