knuckle pad
I think knuckle pads are considered harmless. However, I did have one removed during a Dupuytren's surgery and it didn't come back. Since then I've developed several more and decided not to do anything about them. They sometimes resolve on their own; I had one that went away after several years.

I have 4 in total. Two were removed and came back with a vengence. So I'm leaving the others alone.

knuckle pad
Mine hurt like hell when I knock on a door. I can't do that anymore. Knuckle pads don't seem to hurt unless you bang them.

Garrod~sq~s ?
as a guitar player, the DC on my right hand doesn't bother me nearly as bad as the knuckle pads on my left hand. It's painful to bend the PIP joints, necessary for making chords. Tight clenching of my fist seems to stretch out the pads enough to allow me to play for a few hours, but my hands are stiff and sore the next day. I've had cortisone injections, but it didn't help much. I've been told to just live with it.

An unusual case of peri-articular soft tissue finger swelling in an adolescent male: pachydermodactyly or pachydermoperiostosis? A Rai and GC Zaphiropoulos Department of Rheumatology, Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital, Coventry.
Benign soft tissue swelling affecting the interphalangeal joints can sometimes be misdiagnosed as an arthropathy. Garrods fatty pads (knuckle pad syndrome) is a relatively common and harmless condition characterized by discrete fibromatous skin pads over the dorsum of the interphalangeal joints. We describe a case which clinically resembles the rare but benign condition of pachydermodactyly with some pathological features of the distinct syndrome of pachydermoperiostosis. The possibility of an overlap syndrome is discussed.
