Read the fine print first

It's my guess that there will be people who were sitting in the ASSH convention hall who will say they have been 'instructed' by Dr Eaton. This is not the same as practical training. The course was meant as an informational session which would lead to awareness and a subsequent desire for training to become qualified.

IMHO Dr Eaton needs a list on his website of people he has trained so patients can see who is close to their own area that Dr E says he has trained should they desire to go this route.

    ASSH - IC 10

The session that Carles Eaton headed was specified as an "Instructional Course" (IC 10). Would you call this a "training"? Probably not. Could you view it as the start of training? Why not? At least we all hope that it raised interest enough that some participants now want to get trained.

      The Right Thing To Do.

      Now on Eaton's web site:

"Dr. Eaton is now encouraging interested hand surgeons to visit to observe and discuss the procedure as performed at The Hand Center. It's the right thing to do." <END>

I think it's safe to assume that the words: "It's the right thing to do" mean that he feels that further training is definitely needed. It is also true that he and his team argued that doing NA before resorting to OS was the right thing to do in *gerneral*.

At this stage in the game there could be CHS who start doing NA that we never hear about. Their patients never finding this Forum and reporting. They simply go for it from their MD's recommendation. It would be great to have a growing and complete list here, but at some point we will loose track anyway.

        NA for Duputren~sq~s

So given all options out there, I take it most of you would choose travel to Dr. Eaton's as the best choice?

          Doc Choice

          Bobby:

I would not agree with the suggestion about using Dr. Eaton as a kind of default N.A. Doctor.

Dr. Eaton, from what I've read, is indeed a fine Doc.

But, for those of us on the West Coast, I see no need to travel to Florida for N.A.

We have two great N.A. Docs here in the Golden State - Benhaim in Los Angeles & Denkler in San Fran. I enthusiastically recommend both of these fine Hand Surgeons.

          Hope that helps.

            Thanks Mark
Living in South Carolina, Dr. Eaton is close as any, so I'm setting up a visit with him for mid-October. I'll keep you folks posted with results.
