Over 2 years ago I was accepted as a subject for the Phase III FDA trials for collagenase. A few minutes ago I received a phone call from the Stanford Hand Clinic nofifiying me that the test is now funded and will proceed in a few weeks. I also had NA successfully performed one year ago in Paris on 3 fingers, but the doctor could not correct the PIP joint of my left hand. I'll use this joint in the trials and will post results.

Wonderful

This is what we've been waiting to hear! Apparently the partnership BioS entered into has come through with the $$$$ to finish Phase III. I'll check with UCLA on Monday and see if that location has been funded as well. Once done, all we have to do is sit back as wait for the FDA to acknowledge that after two years no ones hand dissolved from the enzyme:) Still a ways off, but at least moving again.

In a strange sense, perhaps the delay will work out for our good. It will have given NA a chance to gain the acceptance it deserves before the docs want to rush to crown the injections as the "new way" to treat Dups and have less incentive to hear about NA.

NA after collagen

Hello,

It is my understanding that often (because of scarring) it is impossible to do a NA after having Dup surgery. I am currently in the Stanford collagen trials, which raises the following important question: if necessary, will I still be able to have NA after the collagen treatment?

Thank you,

To Yoram

Collagenase and NA are both so new and little practiced in the U.S. that I would be surprised if there were hardly any data to know one way or the other on your question. Especially since different centers are doing the different procedures. Time will probably tell. Maybe a patient or 2 out there can tell us?
