I just returned from visiting Dr. Badois in France also. I made 2, 2 day trips to Paris from the US to visit him. The needle technique he uses was quite effective. In one finger I had a 63 degree bend, and in another I had around 25. The fingers both had fibrous tissue that extended into the joint/knuckle. I was able to regain about 90% of the bad finger and 97% of the better one. I have had 2 surgeries in the US for DC's. The contrast, IMHO is ugly. US Procedure ----------- 1) Bad residual scarring 2) Expensive -Real cost including insurance payments 3) Higher risk drugs for pain 4) More convienient 5) Slow recovery
French Needle ----------- 1) No scarring 2) Cheap even with plane tickets $2500 3) Novacaine only 4) Real painful to get to Paris from West coast and back over a weekend 5) Immediate recovery- almost, no heavy lifting for 4 weeks
Do your own research, but for my next finger, yes I already have another one starting, I will go back on the SF to Paris shuttle. The needle technique doesn't preclude a US surgery, so if it's not successful you still can try the US surgical methods. How long it will last I can't answer, but I can tell you having the full unimpeeded use of all my fingers again is remarkable.

the French Connection
Your posting is the first hopeful item I've seen. Had surgery 3 months ago, have keloid scarring, am going for a second opinion tomorrow. How much longer after surgery did you go for needle therapy? Most of all, thank you for sharing.

would like emails of aponeviotomy
Hi. I am very interested in the aponeviotomy and would very much like to contact someone who has had it done.
My husband has DC in both hands and his feet. He is very scared of surgery because he's had it once on his right hand and now the 2 fingers on his left hand are very bad at about a 90 degree angle. I personally don't think surgery is the answer for him since it is so delicate and it will only progress the disease. I would really appreciate the contact info for the individuals you mentuoned on your post. My email is dmfriedman@mail.com Thanks!

The French Needle
My husband just had it done in Switzerland. He had stage 2 dupytren's, now his fingers are straight again. The procedure took 1 1/2 hours. When he left the office he had light bandages, brusing and needle marks. I went with him and was able to stay in the office while it was being done. The overal cost was reasonable. Canadian dollar to Suiss Franc is 1 cent different so we just considered the costs in terms of our dollar.
1)Air Fare: $523CDN x2 (Toronto-Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Geneva, 45 minute train ride to Yverdon-les Bain. = $1,043CDN 2)Hotel in Yverdon-les-Bain: $140CDN x 6 3)Hotel in Geneva: $180CDN x 2 4)Food $100CDN/day 5)Train costs: $170CDN 6)Incidentals: 7)Cost of procedure: $800CDN
Overall: $3,600CDN for both of use to travel to Switzerland, for a week, including the procedure. It was worth it. Would we do it again? YES! We figure a turn-around to France would be significantly less, but we are happy we went to Switzerland because we had developed a confort level with the Doctor there.
And by the way, my husband pulled his own luggage through the airport on the way home four days after the procedure.
I can not believe this procedure is not here on the North American Continent. A.M.
