Itching

I had surgery on right hand may 2001. I still have deep itching in that hand, and also in left hand, where DC seemed to have been activated after that surgery.

Itching

Jerry, you are so right about avoiding those items. Glucosamine/Chondroitin is, I believe, what accelerated my contractures. I don't have all the answers. I can only speak from personal experience.
Delay surgery if at all possible. From my experience, DMSO is the best alternative we have.
Since DuPuytren's is a genetic condition, at least that's what we're told, it is obvious there is no cure. Anything to reduce the symptoms is a plus.

Itching

Just to add to the information, when I was taking the supplement Glucosamine, my hands developed several lumps and a cord. During this time, there was constant itching.
Every day itching, never stopped.
Then I stopped the supplements, the itching stopped, and the lumps stopped the rapid growth. So, I think the itching means the Dupuytren's is progressing and getting worse. Just my opinion.

itching/ ?~sq~s

I have dc in my right hand. The nodule is below my pinky finger on the palm. I was diagnosed with this last spring, when i noticed the bump. It was very painful and the doctors thought it was a cyst. I had surgery and found out that it was DC. Im in my mid twenties and work as an electrician. I still have pain in my hand, with an even larger nodule than before. In the last couple of weeks i hurt this hand by cutting some pipe. The pain is gone now, but i have what i would say a swollen area below my thumb in the palm area. It also itches every now and then. I wonder if this area is going to be dc related as well? I use vaseline intensive care lotion for dry hands. I read a post that this may not be the safest lotion to use. Does anyone have a recomendation for a lotion to use for dry hands? Also, what is DMSO treatment?
Thanks

Dupuytren

Dear reader:

I just read the following article and I wish to know if Dupuytren's disease is related to Tamoxifen which I presently take as anti-cancer drug:

Thanks for your attention to this question.

Elisabeth
=====
Dupuytren's disease: comparative growth dynamics and morphology between cultured myofibroblasts (nodule) and fibroblasts (cord).

Vande Berg JS, Gelberman RH, Rudolph R, Johnson D, Sicurello P.

The excised palmar fascia of 11 patients with Dupuytren's disease was separated clinically into nodules and cords. Myofibroblasts were seen by light and electron microscopy in each of the nodules, but the cords generally lacked myofibroblasts. Only one cord specimen had microscopic features that were intermediate between nodule and cord. Electron microscopy demonstrated that in vivo differences between myofibroblasts from nodules and fibroblasts from cords and control skin samples could be preserved in vitro. Growth studies showed slower growth of cultured myofibroblasts (mean +/- SD generation time 68.7 +/- 15 h) than cord-derived fibroblasts (mean +/- SD generation time 51.5 +/- 0.9 h). These data suggest that the life cycle of the myofibroblasts from Dupuytren's disease nodules differs from that of fibroblasts found in cordlike tissues. These myofibroblasts have biological characteristics nearly identical to those of myofibroblasts found in other contracting tissues, such as granulating wounds and breast cancer

DC and itching

I have DC on my right hand in the later stage 2 w/ a large knot under my ring finger. Itching is severe especially at night. The Hand Clinic at the Naval Hospital wants to remove it. Will the itching ever stop?

Dupuytren/Tamoxifen/Shoulder Pain Link

Having read the previous post, I am thinking that my shoulder pain started about the time 6-7 years ago when I entered a clinical trial for prevention of breast cancer for high risk women. As I entered late in the trials, the code was broken when it appeared tamoxifen helped prevent breast cancer. I was supplied with the tamoxifen for 5 years. It was about the same time that my shoulder was starting to hurt that a nodule was starting on my left middle finger, which I had surgery on last year. I never connected the two symptons! The finger healed beautifully from the traditional surgery but the shoulder froze and after therapy and exercise it still hurts.
I am really wondering now if there is a link.

itching

I have Dupuytren's nodules on the palms of both hands....no itching. Have deep itching on heel of left foot -- no nodules. Could the foot itching be related to Dupuytren's? bb

Dupuytren and Tamoxifen

To Elisabeth (though my response comes a little late):
Tamoxifen is actually considerd as a drug against Dupuytren (for more information you might e.g. check www.dupuytren-online.info and there "Other therapies", it's the third therapy). I would not expect Tamoxifen to foster Dupuytren growth, but that is only my personal opinion.

Breast Cancer and DC

Hello Elisabeth. I was quite struck by your post. A few weeks ago under a different topic, I posted a note regarding my bouts with breast cancer and melanoma of the thumb and the onset of DC! I am not taking Tamoxifen, however, since a recent re-diagnosis of breast cancer, this time LCIS, I have been taking FEMARA. My understanding is that Femara is similar to Tamox in that they are both aromase inhibitors. I started Femara last February (or March), and this past summer developed an "itchy" palm, and the contracture (and pain) of my middle finger. I read the article you posted ..... and I wonder if there IS INDEED A LINK.
Is there anyone else out there with a similar experience?
