ganglion cyst

I have been battling with this ever persistent cyst in my right wrist for the past 7 years. Once it broke on it's own in a trampoline accident, but came back a couple months later. Then I decided to have it drained - it came back the next day. Finally, after getting into yoga and finding the cyst was limiting my practice, I went in for surgery. The surgery itself wasn't bad, and really the pain after was bearable because I knew once I was healed I would be able to use my hand again normally and without pain.

Well, 8 months after surgery I'm still waiting for he pain to go away. Once the cast came off I tried to start working the joint to regain flexibility like my doctor suggested, but the incision was still too tender and by the time the skin had healed enough to be able to bend my wrist, scar tissue had developed. As is usual with this type of surgery, no physical/occupational therapy was recommended to assist the recovery. So I struggled to regain flexibility.

After about 4 months it was feeling good enough to start doing yoga again, but after each class it would ache. After a certain yoga class, where I probably pushed myself a little too hard, my wrist began to ache soon after, that pesky bump appeared - like an old friend back for a visit. It would come and go, but about a month ago it came and hasn't gone away yet. Along with this last visit came stiffness in my wrist and much pain. Not only does my wrist hurt from the cyst itself, but from the scar tissue that built up. It is sore to the touch and I am unable to fully use my wrist.

This is just my personal experience, but I feel like I was better off before I had the surgery. I guess I feel better knowing that I tried all of my options. I recommend for anyone who has a ganglion cyst to try other options first. Try some of the crazy things that are recommended, like rubbing preparation H on the skin or lavender oil. When you've exhausted all other options and surgery is your next step, I recommend requesting therapy after the surgery. Your doctor might tell you that you won't need it, and maybe you won't, but it's better to have it when you don't need it then to miss out on it when you do! I'm off to get some Preparation H! Wish me luck!

Woa.....

Glucosamine for some people make DC worse because it's job is to *build up* fibrin.

my wrists

I've had ganglion cysts on my wrists for many, many years. I have one on each wrist. They have never caused any pain (just not pretty) so have had nothing done for them. An old Army doctor told me it's the kind of cysts that people used to use the 'family Bible' on, just slam it down and they'll be gone. Never took that advise. Don't hurt? Don't bother! Now my Dupuytren's disease is something else...losing use of my right hand...NOT acceptable!!! Anyone?

Ganglion cyst and lavendar oil

Hi,

My post is directed to the person who wrote that lavendar oil helped their cyst disappear. If you see this can you tell me if the cyst was on the knuckle or palm side of your wrist and if it is still gone? Thanks so much.

Accidental Bible treatment

I inadvertently performed the Bible treatment to a cyst near the third joint of my index finger. The cyst appeared during my high school years then went away by itself. When I was about thirty it reappeared and grew larger. One day I was using an axe to chop some wood. I must have held it just right because when I connected with the wood it felt like all the force from the blow went into that cyst and it felt like it exploded. It was quite painful, but only for a few moments. I took off the leather glove I was wearing to inspect the damage, and found the cyst had completely disappeared. It's been about four years and I've seen no sign of it returning. I wonder if I will see any ill effects down the road, but for now I'm very happy with the results.
