~dq~fasciotomy vs. fasciectomy~dq~

What is this other forum? I would be interested in reading the post concerning 'legality of NA' in US. I'm still planning my 'European vacation' for next year.

Len,
I hope you found the posting. I was in error posting
that it was from Tom. The questions was posted by Jim on
4-11-03 and then the answer from the webmaster was posted
on 4-12-03. Good luck and let us know you thoughts.

Be careful how you read that webmasters response.
It says : "There is no difference between needle aponevrotomy and NEEDLE fasciotomy".
So, he is not addressing the difference between NA and surgical fasciotomy.

Eddie,
Thanks for your thoughts/interpretations. I agree that
this answer does relate primarily to the "needle" aponevro-
tomy and the "needle" fasciotomy. It does not go into
surgical fasciotomy. Please help out here. What is the
verbage for fasciotomy w/the AMA? Do you know? Does it
specifiy a scalpel? Eagerly awaiting any imput you can
provide. There are general definitions and then there are
specific guidelines for all "trades". Have a couple of
friends researching for us, but the sooner the info is
shared the better. Thanks again.

Fasciotomy vs. Fasciectomy

I would think 'needle fasciotomy' is a misnomer, although a surgeon over here uses the 'subcutaneous fasciotomy' for NA.

If you do a quick search on the net, you might find the following definitions :

Fasciotomy :surgical incision of a fascia

Fascia : a sheet of connective tissue (as an aponeurosis) covering or binding together body structures : also : tissue occurring in such a sheet / or / A sheet or band of fibrous connective tissue enveloping, separating, or binding together muscles, organs, and other soft structures of the body

Fasciectomy : surgical excision of strips of fascia

Apeunorectomy : Excision of an aponeurosis
Also called by some : 'Aponovrotomy', 'Subcutaneous (just under the skin) fasciotomy', and maybe other.

Aponeurosis : A sheetlike fibrous membrane, resembling a flattened tendon, that serves as a fascia to bind muscles together or as a means of connecting muscle to bone

Interpretation of all this ? I leave it up to you.
No idea what the AMA sees in all this, being Belgian myself :)
