Today: Information ,NA/Worried and Help

I went to my Hand/plastic sergeon today for my check up, and had copied all of the information off of Dr. Eaton's sight. I took it with me. He said to me " Oh, are you the person that emailed me?" I said No. So, one of you has done this, off of this sight. He has learned of this, from someone on this sight.
He said to me " This is ( the NA) not a proven or accepted proceedure for DC in this country. " This could cause many problems...re..broken vessels, nerve damage, and on and on." He went on and on, about the adverse reasons for not doing this. He also said, the surgery is very invasive. Go Figure
Anyway, someone on this sight, has the same doctor in Wisconsin that I have, and has emailed him, and he is getting this from other people now too. He is , I will bet, getting ready to investigate this. If any of you are from Wisconsin, and have contacted Dr. Dubeck , in Oshkosh, let me know. One of you, has done that. That is good , cause all of us should be doing this.
I am now very confused, as, as , he expalaned it to me, the risk of damage from the NA is not a thing you want to deal with, but, I think, he and many other surgeons, will take a different note in the next 5 years.
I would like some feedback on my post. I am in a delima of when my time comes, what to do. Thanks to all of you, that suffer the same problem, and, that the problem is not addressed on any medical internet sight . It amazed me.

DANGER

I BELIEVE DR. EATON LISTS THE POSSIBLE DANGERS... BUT. ADD THEM UP AND THEN GO LOOK AT TRADITIONAL SURGERY...EVERY SURGERY HAS A DANGER....BUT, I WILL TAKE THE N.A. ANY DAY...
AND FEEL LUCKY THAT I CAN...
THE ONLY INVASIVENESS THAT I HAD WAS A NEEDLE STUCK IN MY HAND ABOUT 5 TIMES FOR NOVACAINE OR WHATEVER THEY USED AND THEN SNIPS OR SLICES MADE WITH A SMALL NEEDLE...DR, EATON IS TALKING TO YOU AND ASKS YOU IF YOU CAN FEEL ANYTHING OR IF HE IS NEAR NERVE...IT IS ONLY MY OPINION....BUT, I CHOOSE DR. EATON AFTER WATCHING THIS SITE AND I AM VERY GLAD THAT I DID. I WOULD NOT DO THE REGULAR HAND SURGERY..
THE RESULTS ARE DEVASTATING, AND I HAVE SEEN THIS ON A FRIEND. READ...STUDY..THE SITE WWW.HANDCENTER.COM THEN LOOK AT TRADITIONAL SURGERY.
REMEMBER WHEN THE ONMY EXCEPTABLE WAY TO DEAL WITH BREAST CANCER WAS A TOTAL MASTECTOMY...EVERYONE HAS TO MAKE THERE OWN DECISIONS.. I CHOOSE DR. EATON... AND I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA...THANKS PATTY..GOOD LUCK

Danger of NA

The hand surgeon that said NA is invasive as opposed to traditional hand surgery sure needs to be enlightened! I would FLEE from his office in an instant had he told me that stuff. I guess he can not read (Or refuses to read) about this proven NA technique that has been around for more than 30 years!

An OldCdog

(Underwent NA procedure on July 1, 2004 with Dr. Eaton and am delighted I DID NOT have the traditional barbaric hand surgery performed that Mayo Clinic twice recommended!)

Needle Aponevrotomy

There's a risk with any medical procedure. NA is less invasive than a root canal. My experience talking to most docs is they're ignorant and know only what they know. People here should read the postings and check the internet for NA info. I've had it twice and will have it again as necessary. If the practitioner is qualified, the risk is minimal.

NA Procedure

5 months ago I had traditional surgery on my left (non-dominant) hand for a 60% contracture of my little and ring fingers with some involvement of the first and second joints of the little finger. The contracture has been fully released and I have full use of my hand back. The healing and therapy processes were gruelling and I swore that I wouldn't have my right hand repaired.

Today I had Dr. Eaton release the contracture on my right hand and the result was also successful.

The difference in the two procedures was, however, dramatic. Instead of outpatient surgery with general anesthesia, 30+ stitches, over $12,000 in cost, 3 months of aggressive therapy three times per week, 4 months of splinting, and scar management; I came for an office visit that lasted an hour including consultation and procedure, with local anesthesia, no stitches, less than $800 in cost, no therapy, splinting, or scar management.

Both procedures were covered under Medicare. My total out of pocket cost was $72.

The choice for me is very clear. I fully expect that if I live long enough both hands will experience a recurrence of DC. When the time comes I will choose to repeat the NA procedure.

Piece of cake

Hi all,
I would like to thank this forum and it's founders and supporters for the info which led to being able to find Dr. Eaton. I had the procedure done Thursday morning July 8. This is Saturday July 10 and I can totally use my hand! My hand went from 3 fingers at 60 degrees to my hand perfect flat on the table.Three fingers were straightened in 45 minutes while I sat there and chatted with the doc and his assistant. The discomfort was less than a tooth being filled at the dentist. Five years ago I had my pinky surgically corrected and it was awful. Lots of pain and months of therapy. There was slight nerve damage, not to mention what this type of invasion does to the skin. It's dry, scarred and leathery. And that was with a competent doctor. The NA caused no scarring and virutually no recovery time, just a bit of soreness after two days. There's no bleeding under the skin! Dr. Eaton is great! I will NEVER consider surgery again after having this procedure done. God bless Dr. Eaton and his wonderful staff. Everyone there was extremely friendly and the office had a lighthearted atmosphere. I guess with every patient leaving with a smile and so much gratitude for the instant relief, that they all seem to share some of the excitement of their patients. I can't say enough good for these folks. Good luck to everyone and please don't be afraid of this procedure. Be concerned if your doctor only suggests surgery. Bill Gardner

NA success

Hi Bill,

I am really glad your NA went so well. As a matter of interest, did you have the pinky you had surgery on done as well, and if so, how did that go? It's just that I had very successful NA on the non-operated pinky, but the operated one was not quite as successful, but I believe that is common. The best thing is to avoid surgery in the first place... if only I'd known!

Pinky

Hi Sara,
My pinky which had had the previous surgery was being contracted mostly from the palm.He was able to straighten it out also. He had a little trouble getting under the previous scar tissue near the base of the finger, but was finally able to free it up. It almost feels like a minor miracle after all these years of dealing with this condition. Good luck to you Sara. If I can be of any further assistance please feel free to write. Take care. Bill
