Re: I think I'm gonna cry...
Now-what: And I'm pretty tough. A little history...female, 56 years old. Back surgery (herinated disk) exactly one year ago. 5 months later...shoulder surgery. Doc released bicep tendon that was shredded. 3 months later, other shoulder...same pain, still haven't seen doc yet...trying to wait it out to see if it gets better. 2 weeks ago.....small, hard nodule to right foot to instep...now with mild pain. 2 days ago...burning *pulling* type pain to palm of left hand and slight pain to right hand also. No nodule yet, but I can barely see and feel a cord. So, I see family doc today...who diagnosed me with Dupuytens. My father had it badly in one hand, also my older brother...although at that time, I didn't know the name of the disease. I am so overwhelmed. I actually ache over my entire body especially at night. I found the board and honestly don't know where to even start. Doc told me there is really no good treatment. I assume he would refer me to someone if things get worse. I didn't even know (and I'm not sure he did) about the shoulder connection until I read it on this site. Any ideas...tips at this stage? Thanks
Hi NowWhat Are you feeling any better as yet?
You have certainly got a lot going on there - it must be very hard at times. The beginning of developing the condition is always the worst time while you're figuring it all out, I have been assured by someone wise and accustomed to a lot of pain and health problems (if this helps).
At least you are in the early stages and can consider radiotherapy, which has shrunk and made small nodules disappear completely in some cases. Have you looked into this yet?
In the meantime, there are some topical creams available for the nodule pain and strong pain killers could give you some temporary rest from the pain. Perhaps also a nice massage to treat yourself ?

Re: I think I'm gonna cry...
Thank you all for your supportive replies. I've actually been doing better with the Dupuytrens. I believe it has "settled down". Still have the knot on the foot but doesn't seem to be getting larger. My palm doesn't hurt anymore either. but I can still see a hint of a cord there. I am convinced the glucosamine/chondroitin had set it off. Both my shoulders are better even though I still don't have complete ROM. However I am still having backpain with accompanying numbness down my legs. I suspect I will be seeing a neurosurgeon again in the future but am putting it off until I have to. An interesting thing I found out just over Christmas, my younger brother also has the Dupytrens with large knot and drawing in his hand. I knew my older brother had it but was sorry to find out my younger brother does also. So my dad had it and 2 brothers and I have it.

Hi there NowWhat/Alderdweller Thank you for letting us know about your improvement - thank goodness! I still think you deserve a massage though...
You have a lot to manage, but take some time to consider your options with radiation treatment for the nodule in your foot. The risks are low and the improvement excellent while still in the early stages - so you still have a chance to catch it early.

Re: I think I'm gonna cry...
Hi, I am a new member and can really appreciate what you are going through. I herniated a Lumbar disc one year ago, had surgery in April 2010. Recovered from that with lots of walking and PT. Got back to climbing, hiking, biking, was feeling great. Had a bout of very painful dry eye in August, an autoimmune disease, started on Restasis eye drops and resumed my activities. Oh, I have had pretty stable DP in my hands for about 10 years and am 50 something of german and english descent. That was all to change: in Oct 2010, I broke a cartlilage rib during a rockclimbing fall. I had a sore chest for about one month, but it seemed to trigger a surge in my DP, so I stopped climbing but while biking and running I noticed weird pains all over the soles of my feet. All the docs said the it was plantar fasciitis, so I got custom orthotics and PT which have not helped, I was going nuts with burning and pain in my hands and feet. So, my PCP put me on Lyrica which has helped. Had lots of labs which show I have a slightly elevated RF(rheum. factor), low normal Vit D levels, slightly hyperthyroid, and a Neurology test that couldn't find any thing wrong with my nerves, but labled me with "presumptive peripheral neuropathy! An MRI of my right foot found nothing, except abnormally thickened plantar fascia, although I can feel a bump in the front part of my left heel that chafes constantly when I walk. It is frustrating, that no physicians around here, know what to do. I learned about RT on this website and am looking into it for my hands. The orothopedic docs say don't operate until you can't stand the pain. Ha Ha. I have been in pain since Oct. I am now starting to decrease the Lyrica and learning to live the pain. And the pains seem less now. Fjellver

You can develop peripheral neuropathy (burning in hands and feet) from a pinched nerve which might be related to your lumbar issues. IF that is the problem, then clear up the pinched nerve and the neuropathy might go away.

David26, Those are great thoughts, and my back was one of the reasons I went to the Neurologist. He did extensive testing and ruled Out any relationship with my feet and my back. Thanks, Fjellver
