Re: More on managing the condition
Interesting observation.
I agree, if anyone has a consultation with Dr. S, please ask him whether the hot/cold dipping after RT on hands is recommended.

Very strange because Prof. S specifically told me to avoid temperature extremes with my hands and feet - no hot or cold water. I'm here in hamburg right now and will see him on Tuesday so I'll ask.

Re: More on managing the condition
Hi Diane The difference could be the degree of heat and cold, but checking sounds like a good idea - let us know what Prof S. says
Also, I just remembered he also recommended some exercises including grasping stones with your toes and walking through water to strengthen the feet
We should try and compile a sheet of advice to share with others on the forum
I hope you're having a good time in Hamburg
All the best Di

Re: More on managing the condition
Good idea, Di, about compiling a list of recommendations. It would be good to have one for DD, too. Would a Q & A format work?
I just love the people on this Forum! Everybody thinking about how to help others.

Re: More on managing the condition
I saw Prof. S on Tues. and asked about the hot/cold dip for hands. He was quite busy so it may have not been the best time to ask. He said that you could try it if you want. Sorry - that was the best response I could get.

Re: More on managing the condition

Re: More on managing the condition
I finished up my second round of RT with Dr Weiss at VCU a few weeks ago. Both my left hand and left foot were treated. My instructions were to avoid hot and cold on the radiated areas and to limit exercise activity. Dr Weiss feels the best results are achieved by taking it easy during and 6 weeks after the treatments. Just an FYI from my experience.

Re: More on managing the condition
Looks as though we better leave this suggestion off our advice sheet Di

Re: More on managing the condition
Hi Diane Thanks for following this up and letting us know. That's a bit wierd, Prof S. definitely recommended this, and it does seem to fit the idea of getting the blood circulating, but perhaps it was meant to be tried after some recovery time and also not overly hot or cold. Anyway, it sounds like something we shouldn't be recommending if we put together a summary of advice for this condition as it conflicts with 'across the board' advice to avoid temperature extremes. I hope your treatment and your time in Germany is going well for you All the best Di
