Re: Radiation in US

I wanted to follow up with my latest exam. It has been about a month since my last of two series of radiation treatments. Met with Dr. Reymond this morning (St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS). One cord in my left hand seems to be gone. He thinks that the nodules are softer. Nothing is larger or more advanced. I realize that this is early on, but I'm going to keep reporting as I go along so that others might benefit from my experience. My next exam will be in January of 2009. Unless I see some type of change prior to that I probably won't add to the forum, but I will check from time to time to see if someone has questions.

Re: Radiation in US

Hi Australia Calling, I have received the 5X 3Gy radiotherapy protocol by Prof.Seegenschmiedt in Essen
Germany. He now repeats this protocol ,if necessary 3 months later. In my case I found that the nodules completly, disappeared in my right hand ,which did not need have the second protocol . After the radiotherapy, the Prof. suggested I apply a high potency creme containing Urea, which helps to retain moisture. I had no adverse results. It is now 12 months since my initial treatment and I am returning next week for a check up and to incorporate a good time in Germany. THE MESSAGE IS DONT WAIT UNTIL THE CORDS DEVELOPE. Regards from down under.

Re: Radiation in US

Hi Newman,

Just wondering how long after your treatment did the nodules start disappearing?

Re: Radiation in US

Following up again 1-20-2009. Met with Dr. Reymond this morning. He did not see anything in the examination to make us believe that the Dupuytrens was advancing. If anything the nodules are somewhat smaller, both in height and radius. No cords. I have 100% use of my hands, no discomfort. If it weren't for the little bumps you wouldn't know there was a problem. I understand that we have to wait a couple of years before we can really believe that the disease is arrested, but 1/4 of the way, and so far, so good. Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Radiation in US

It has almost two years since I last wrote. For whatever it is worth my Dupuytern's is exactly like I last reported. I've had no increase in contractres, nor have the little nodules on both of my hands increased in size. I don't know how long one has to wait to declare the radiation a success, but I have to say that to date it has done everything I had hoped for. Unfortunately Dr. Reymond in Topeka has retired. I'm following up to see if the local hospital is still offering treatment. I'd do radiation again in a heartbeat.

Re: Radiation in US

HI D Wilson,

That is great news.

Same for me....no changes in two years since the radiation treatment. In fact, the nodule on my right hand, while still there, is much reduced. Some days I can barely feel it and it is barely visible. The small cord on my left hand hasn't visibly changed. I feel very fortunate.

Being completely frustrated from the skills of medical doctors in CANAD and USA reagarding
my upcoming Morbus Ledderhose on my right foot I found excellent help in GERMANY ...

I can confirm good results on both hands and one foot 4 years after receiving radiation
at the former institution of Prof. Seegenschmiedt. I recently visited him in Hamburg,
after having progress in the only untreated right foot. Doctors at his former clinic in
Essen were unable to provide a reasonable follow-up exam and counselling, whereas
in Hamburg I received a thorough examination of ALL EXTREMITRIES, photographic
documentation and an elaborated report of all findings and therapeutic suggestions.

At that point Prof. Seegenschmiedt suggested a magnetic resonace imaging which helped
to assess the exact location and depth of my new nodule. As I have no symptoms at all,
Prof. Seegenschmiedt decided not to start treatment with my right foot.

In summary: TREATMENT is on aspect , but CAREFULL FOLLOW-UP is another very important
aspect for making a final decision, WHERE to go to receive treatment. I would always highly
recommend Prof. Seegenschmiedt in Hamburg as expert not only because of his skills and
clinical experience but also because of his warm and friendly personality and his excellent
counsellation skills based on clinical experience from hundreds of patients and long-term
observation following radiation therapy. Jennifer (Montreal, Canada)
