Re: RT after surgery

It will be interesting to see what happens when you meet with the radiotherapist and surgeon at the same time. Please keep us posted as it is a new approach, I believe.

Re: RT after surgery

I too look forward to the outcome of the patient + surgeon + radiotherapist consultation. I hope it does not turn into an argument of "my treatment is better than yours"!

From a post above

"I 've had 15 surgeries including 4 large grafts. In mid 07 I had a repeat surgery and within 4 weeks had numerous nodules appear on the operated hand and the index finger of the other hand. I visited Prof. Seegenschmiedt then in Essen Germany. My operated hand had Protocol- 5days of 3 Gy (total 15 GY) whereas the unoperated had the (30 GY.) The idea is to get results with the lowest dose of RT. This would allow a repeat RT if it became necessary. (Documentation-photos etc to identify the treated area is most important.) The grafts had to be protected . I would not worry about RT after surgery. In case of keliods the RT is carryied out within 24 hr.of surgery for the best result. I had RT some 8 to 10 weeks after surgery"

Re time post surgery for RT, see the above post where RT was given 8-10 weeks post surgery. I would have thought this would interfere with healing and nerve re-growth. This may depend on how aggressive the disease is. If it was my hand I would be conservative and leave RT post surgery for as long as possible, especially if there is no contraction. The data suggests effectiveness of RT deceases if there is contraction although RT post surgery may be quite different.
