Thank you for the info about radiation also. I appreciate all the information so I can make an informed decision.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
It is quite difficult to find a surgeon or general practitioner who is familiar with the ways and means of Dupuytren's. However, there are a few out there listed elsewhere in this forum as well as on several Facebook sites.
I myself had a fantastic experience back in 2006 with Dr. Keith Denkler in Larkspur (San Francisco area) who performed NA on a 90 degree contractured small finger. It was quite painful (the numbing injections) but ultimately rather successful, aided and abetted by my going to a hand therapist (his recommendation) for many months afterward and continuing to wear custom made splints at night for 3-4 years. I chose to fly to SF to visit with Dr. Denkler, whio I believe is still active. Prior to contracture, I believe many have experienced success with radiation treatments from a knowledgeable practitioner.
Best of luck!

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Kerryst: Thank you for the encouragement, I asked my surgeon about having steroid shot so it wouldn’t progress and he refused to do it until it’s a contracture. Do you find it’s difficult to find a doctor to do preventative care for DC? I think I need to find a new Doctor.
We get lots of comments that indicate some surgeons will only do full fasciectomy surgery. Some like Dr Denkler as mentioned and Dr Pess will perform more conservative treatments, including NA or steroid shots so finding the right and more experienced surgeon is often necessary. This is also the case when or if it comes to correcting a contracture, as specialist experience makes a difference. SB

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Thank you Mike!! I was able to get an appointment with Dr. Denkler this week. He looked at photos and thought steroid injections were a good option. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your help!! I’ll report back after. I am so grateful you shared your story.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Kerry, you're quite welcome. IMHO you are in good hands (pun intended?) with Dr. Denkler. In addition, both he and his wife (also a physician as I recall) are wonderful people. Once again, best of luck!

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
I am a 58 year woman with seemingly quickly progressing DP in both hands. I've been looking for a good doctor for 3 years now. I've met with 3 hand specialists, surgeons that all absolutely refuse to do anything other than Xiaflex or fasciectomy. They completely deny that triamcinolone is an option for lessening the progression of the nodule formation or heaven forbid actually reversing the growth. I have also tried finding a rheumatologist who may treat the condition but no luck. I saw the referral to Dr. Denkler in San Francisco area and may consider traveling if he is truly willing to do the steroid treatments first instead of waiting until its too late. Does anyone know of anybody on the Los Angeles, Orange county or even San Diego area that treats early but progressing Dupuytren's before surgery is the only option?

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Hi, Dr. Denkler gave me my first round of steroid shots a few weeks ago. I think the protocol is 3 times, a month apart. You can email him and send photos of your hands and he will tell you what he recommends or call his office. He is a very nice Doctor and really wants to help. You won’t regret it. He is in Larkspur, CA. He will work with you based on the progression to find the least invasive solution.

This Forum has a full section on "RADIOTHERAPY" for early stage Dupuytren - a treatment method which can affect the local progress factor called EPIDERMAL GROWTH FACTOR (EGF-beta). This leads to a complete stop of progression and is valuable for affected persons with minor involvement - you can read more about

With gratitude for all affected patients & medical colleagues who help to advance patient care ...

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Hello— I had a nodule and a cord formation in my right hand back in 2012. I consulted a hand specialist who insisted that I wait until I was showing signs of contracture before attempting to do anything. When I asked her about RT she acted like I had personally insulted her. Needless to say, I found a new doctor in Oregon, for a steroid shot; then he told me to have radiation with Dr. Song, at Virginia Mason, in Seattle. My treatment was a complete success! It’s been so long, I don’t even remember all the details, but I do remember the ridiculous pushback I received from many greedy hand surgeons that operate here in the USA. I believe that DD is their “bread and butter” in this country. This, of course, is my own personal opinion.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's
Thank you for the info, I had the same experience with my surgeon wanting me to wait until I had contractures. What is Doctor Songs first name? it looks like there are 2 at Virginia Mason Radiation Oncology in Seattle. Also, did you have side effects from the radiation? Is it equivalent to a few X-rays or quite a bit more radiation?
