scheduled for NA with Eaton in Feb 06
I have had DC in both hands for over 10 years. I am 55 now. Started when I was mid 40's, right hand first, but the RH has been very slow to contract (10 degrees now). Left had is about 25 degrees with pinkie and ring finger progressing at a moderate rate in the past 12 months. Also have Ledderhose growths in the palms of both feet, have been able to "live' with these by using Brooks walking shoes and professional orthodics (with a shallow valley groved in my orthotodis where the growths hit the orthodics. I have been monitoring this "forum" for over a year and have learned a great deal about DC and Ledderhose disease. I visited a CHS about 6 months ago, he indicated he knew nothing about NA, of course confirmed my own self diagnosis of DC and was ready to do hand surgery whenever I wanted to schedule it. I plan to show him my hand when I return from Dr Eaton so I can "educate" him. I hope the new treatments for Ledderhose that are being tried are successful with limited side effects, for now I will contine as is with my feet and get my hands treated with NA. I want to thank "all of the posters on this forum" for the information they have shared. |

pinky finger thumb and knuckles
This is my first time on this forum.I am 50 years old and have had nodules on my knuckles from I was about 16.I had always worked as a fish filleter and used to get terrible pain in my knuckles when working with cold water. Then when I reached about thirty my pinky finger started to harden like a callous thing and eventualy over time the finger contracted and the tip is now nearly touching the palm of my hand. This past few years my thumb has started to harden as well.My older brother and sister have got this disease also.Is it realy a viking thing? |

Viking disease?
Hi Tolucca, though it really is only of historical interest "who's done it" and spread the Dupuytren disease, the latest research might indicate that we can't blame the Vikings. Here is the abstract: |

Dupuytren
I was diagnosed with Dup disease when I was 20 years old. I had an aggressive growth in my right hand only. I am only 34 years old and just recently (three days ago)had my fourth surgery to release my right hand.About 2 months ago I noticed a small nodule in the palm of my left hand. Today that nodule has already formed a cord and I feel another nodule forming on an adjacent tendon. I initially had signs of the disease when I was about 9 or 10 years old. Trigger finger, knuckle pads and plantar nodules ( at that time the doctor thaught the plantar nodules were cysts). I try not to let the disease hold me back . I am a firefighter who still works out daily and races mountain bikes. Never let the disase control you. |
