Re: Hyaluronidase injection

In PubMed I did not find any publication of results of treating Ledderhose with Hyaluronidase. Amazing isn't it?

Hyaluronidase seems to have been tested several decades ago for Dupuytren's, e.g. de Haas in 1979 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11496377.

For Dupuytren's contracture McCarthy wrote in 1992 "We reviewed ten hands in nine patients who had enzymatic fasciotomy for Dupuytren's contracture, with an average follow-up of 6.5 years. While all patients were initially satisfied with the results, the disease recurred quite rapidly to pre-operative levels in seven patients over the subsequent two to three years" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1624874
That sounds similar to collagenase but I think the risks of side effects when using hyaluronidase were higher and therefore this type of injection was abandoned. But I might be wrong.

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

Penny: I am so happy to see you are having some good initial results! I will be following your updates with much interest as it has been confirmed that my Tenex procedure did not work. There is a possibility that a physician near where I live may follow your doctor's protocol and be willing to start this injection therapy for me. I will need to wait and see on that, but I guess we do a lot of "wait and see" with this disease. If he is not able or willing to do the injections, I will either do radiation or fly to TX to see your doctor. This forum has a lot of information on radiation, but not as much on other procedures. I did correspond with another patient in CA that had two of these injections with your doctor. He will be having a third soon and is experiencing significant improvement. Keep us posted and best wishes to you!

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

Due to my interest in exploring the use of hyaluronidase injections for the treatment of my fibromas a few months ago I sent several questions to Dr. Davis to respond to. A couple of weeks ago I sent him a few more questions and asked him if it would be alright to post all of his answers on this Forum. He said, "Yes."

I hope in sharing this information about the treatment process, etc. it will be of value to others.

Hopefully adding to this promising procedure will be Penny's continued success.

In addition to my questions and Dr. Davis' responses attached below I would recommend you read Gary's interview with Dr. Davis at: Ledderhose.blogspot.com

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

Penny,

After reading a recent post regarding cost of Xiaflex I am wondering if you are able to share at this point what your H. Injection treatments are costing from Dr. Davis?

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

I had my second injection last week and am happy with the results. The first visit I had an extensive exam and sonogram, orthotics for my shoes made, a nerve block in both feet, local anesthesia and the the injection in both feet. I am cash pay/no insurance and the cost was $1097.50 and the orthotics were approx $500 of that. I still haven't gotten the break down from the billing office. The second injections in both feet I did without the nerve block, just the local and the cost was $155 and he again used the sonogram. So how it all breaks down and what it is if you have insurance I don't know. I am doing an interview for Gary's blog http://ledderhose.blogspot.com/p/patient-interviews.html if you want my full story. If this doesn't last, I will do it again...I have my feet back!!! But according to Dr. Davis who has been doing this for 20+ years it does last in the feet.

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

Thanks Penny for the update and the various costs for treatment. Everything sounds really positive, so happy for the success you are having! I really hope others, especially those with large, painful fibromas might be helped by this treatment option.

Are you done now? The two injections were all you needed?

Looking forward to reading the interview on Gary's blog.

Re: Hyaluronidase injection

Is there any more info available on this treatment? ie side effects, how effective it is, longevity Did Dr Davis make any comments on past patients? Are there any other doctors using this treatment?

Appreciate any help as I am considering getting this treatment.
