basic question

since collagen is in meat and since we as dupuytrens sufferers seem to not metabolize collagen properly, shouldn't we be avoiding meat?

Re: basic question

Hi cureall,

collagen is not unhealthy, it's an essential part of our body, e.g. of our joints and skin. I don't think we are suffering from excess collagen. The collagen is rather used by the body to cope with the situation in the diseased hand where the initial tumor is located. I have no idea why we are developing these "nodules" that indicate the start of the disease. But we do get them. They obviously cause a problem in the hand's function and the body tries to deal with that problem by putting the effected finger at rest in an (unfortunately) bent position. At least that's how I view this. In the medical world the pathogenesis of Dupuytren's disease is still subject of discussion.

To your question: I don't think a veggy diet would make a difference (though it might be healthy for other reasons e.g. if you suffer from gout).
