Dupuytren 30 years old

Hello! I have been diagnosed with Dupuytren's in both hands. I have no known family history with this disease and I come from a family of farmers and workers. The onset of symptoms coincided with a fall in which I fractured the scaphoid in my right hand and after 3 months I began climbing to strengthen my hands. A few weeks later, a lump appeared on my right hand along with a bruise. I don't know when it also appeared on my left hand. which has ended up being worse. I don't have a contraction in any finger, I do have itching and the area is hard, even without rope on the surface. I am a musician and I am very worried because at my age this leaves me unable to play, and I also love sports.

My questions are: does anyone know a good doctor in Spain to follow up? Should I start radiotherapy as soon as possible to stop it or is it dangerous due to my age? If I practice lifting weights (not very heavy) should I stop? I'm sorry for the length of the message, the doctor I had the last appointment with didn't tell me anything at all, she said I could take anti-inflammatories for the pain and wait. I need advice, thanks.

Re: Dupuytren 30 years old

Hi
Sorry to hear your news. You mention a nodule but it's not clear if despite the relatively short time since the wrist fracture the condition is showing other symptoms apart from the itching, as radiotherapy is only really effective during active stages of progression. Maybe it will settle down with no cords and no contracture as your wrist continues to heal. Or maybe signs of inflammation and soreness can be treated conservatively by a Dr experienced in early treatment of DD. Coming back to RT the DART website does list a radiologist in Malaga, but possibly an online appointment with Professor Seegenschmiedt can answer your questions about appropriateness at your age and treatment via RT at this early stage. There is such as thing as too early for RT. Start a weekly or monthly record of symptoms and photos to have objective evidence of progression and make the video appointment with ProfS. Best wishes SB

Re: Dupuytren 30 years old

Thank you for your words. I injured my wrist at the end of November and the symptoms became visible about three months later, I didn't notice if they had already started before. I already have an appointment at the Ruber hospital in Madrid to see if I'm lucky and they can cover me on health insurance, although they claim that since it's a benign disease I might have to pay for it myself. For a few weeks now I've felt heat and some pain in the area, my left hand seems to develop more wrinkles around the affected area. Really, if the RT is effective at this stage and I can stop the proliferation, I'll do everything possible to receive the treatment.
