Finger locked
Had trigger finger release on right ring finger the end of March, also had carpal tunnel release on right hand at the same time. A few months later saw my orthopedic surgeon for problems on that hand. He told me the trigger finger recurred, I also have dupuytrens as evidenced by nodule below ring finger and have some arthritis. He referred me to a hand specialist as he does not deal with DD. Thanks to socialized medicare it only takes 2 months to see the hand specialist and 18 months to see a rheumatologist. See the specialist Nov. 29. Sounds like surgery is the only alternative here in Saskatchewan.
My finger was lockong up especielly during the night but I was always able to straighten it up the next day. On Saturday though it lpcked and I have been unable to unlock it. Also have another nodule above the original one. Don't know if this is due to the trigger finger or DD. Don't want to try to force it open as do not to do any more damage but it is really getting annoying and I am now unable to work as I need my hands for my job.
Anybody had this issue and what did you do to resolve it. Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Finger locked
Have you tried a cortisone injection? That may reduce the swelling in the tendon enough so you can unbend it.
You're not by any means the first person here to have Dupuytren's crop up, sometimes quite dramatically, following trigger finger or carpal tunnel surgery. I'm in that boat, going from never having heard of Dupuytren's to a 40-degree contracture within three months after a trigger finger surgery on my middle finger. A fasciectomy later, I probably have about a 30 to 35-degree contracture now, with maybe 20 degrees in the ring finger. My ring finger would lock in the mornings for quite a while after the surgery, and there are nodules and a cord below it. I'm wondering if the triggering is actually caused by the messed-up fascia.

Re: Finger locked
I have had cortisone in the past but surgeon said to hold off until I see the hand specialist. I saw my GP who managed to get it straightened out but it hurt like heck. Still locks up quite easily and seems to want to go into the bent position. I have nodules but no cords that I can tell. Joints hurt a lot after straightening. Just found out I have hypothyroidism, don't know if that is causing some of the problems or not. On meds now so I will see if they help. Does it ever end?

Re: Finger locked
Does it ever end? No, not until the big end, anyway!
There was a thread or two on here a few months ago about thyroid problems, and quite a few people had them, either hyper or hypo. Thyroid disease is often autoimmune, and Dupuytren's seems to have an autoimmune component, too. Autoimmune diseases tend to travel in packs, so I guess it's not surprising that a lot of us have more than one. It would be interesting to know if there is a specific link between thyroid problems and Dupuytren's. For me, one of the drugs used to treat Graves' disease toppled the dominos that got my hand where it is now.

Re: Finger locked
I'm in with the pack. I have hypo-throidism.
