I do not have "the" answer to your specific question. The Vit C issue involves connective tissue repair. In general advertisements encourage us to take supplements that help "repair" tissue damage. Vit C and Chondroitin glucosamine encourage connective tissue repair. Well, DC sufferers already have an over-active repair process. The thinking is: why pour gasoline on a fire? Conversely, anti-oxidants may be benign or even helpful (Vit B series.) No one knows for sure. Anecdotedly (stories,) it seemes resonable to avoid collagen repair modalities. Anti-oxidants might be non-contributary, if not helpful. No one knows with certainty to the best of my limited knowledge. I think that this forum, the BTC study, the French "needle," and a knowledgeable hand surgeon are the best avenues of "managing" the disease. I hope collagenase works out. I await gene therapies. Meanwhile, there is no cure; (IMO) there is no esoteric naturopathic remedy. Avoiding high dose Vit C and the Chondroitin complexes sounds prudent (although unproven.) Hand surgery is a necessary and appropriate treatment in some, not all, circumstances. If one focuses on third party payment, health insurance, I, personally, feel all is lost. Focus on the extent of debilitation, become informed, pay for consultation, read this and other web sites, weigh the possibilities, chose the best option for yourself. Do not get "talked" into anything without researching the subject. Me, I will opt for NA when my pinkie gets 30-45 degrees. If Collagenase is available by then, I will consider that. NA sounds quicker. Both are treatments, not cures. Hand surgery sounds: unpredictable, expensive, slow healing, and may limit other options. Gene tharapy may be decades away.
