dupuytren at 30

I am a 30 year old male who has just been diagnosed with an (until now) mild case of Dupuytren disease.

I have a two small lumps on my right hand, and my little finger is a bit less flexible.

The other hand is fine, as are my feet. There are no known cases in my family.

Has anybody heard of cases my age?

I must add that I have played squash (right handed) very intensively for the last fifteen years.

I suspect this must be a big contributing factor, if not the outright cause. The lump appeared one or two days after a game of squash.

It has not become better or worse since then.

reading up about it on the net, it seems to me that the fact that I already have it at 30 does not bode well for the future...

If somebody has input, let me know (ionbarra@yahoo.com)

Many thanks and good luck to everybody

32 year old woman with DC

I am a (nearly) 32 year old woman diagnosed with DC earlier this week. So far, I have two nodules in my left palm with a slight decrease in flexibility. I haven't heard of DC in my family, but my father and I were comparing hands a few weeks ago, and I think he might be showing symptoms. (As a male who is nearly 60 years old, he more closely fits the usual profile.) It has been an emotional few days contemplating possible outcomes for my future, but I am trying to stay positive.

32 year old female with DC

My doctor mistook the signs of DC on my left hand (pinky finger pad) for a wart, and now I have to go for surgery. Any suggestions? Do I have a legal leg to stand on in Canada? Please respond. Thanks, and good luck.
Candyce.

33 and just had the surgery.....

I had a severe bicycle injury 10 years ago. My right ring and middle finger were dislocated and jammed into my hand approx. 1-1/2 inches. About a year later, (25 years old) I started to see the growth of the nodules. Slowly but surely my ring finger started to curl also pulling the pinky and middle finger too. This past summer I noticed an incredible amount of growth and bending. I use my hand all the time as a Landscape Architect and Art Teacher. Clay and digging trees and laying paver bricks! I need my hands!!!! The doctor suggested surgery and I'm not 3 weeks post op and wonder why I ever waited. My hand looks great and feels good. The incision is zig zag from the base of my ring finger to the base of my palm. 15 stitches. I have a little numbness and little ache along the scar. I rub lotion into my hand every chance I get to help break down the scar. The strength will return in approx. 4-6 weeks. I also use a squeeze ball to help strenghten, but My hand tires quickly.....don't over do it! Email me with any personal questions.

Just diagnosed

I am a 33 year old female with pain in my left wrist up to my thumb, on and off for about a year. I just thought i had pulled a muscle. I have just seen a doctor today and he told me i had dupuytren's. I have no nodules or any curling up of my fingers, just pain. He gave me a cortizone shot and anti-inflamitories. Could I be misdiagnosed? I do not have any bumps or constant pain. The pain usually lasts a few days to a week and goes away faster if i rest the hand. Any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated. I am concerned about all the info I have been reading. It looks worse than what the doctor explained. Thanks!

Needle Procedure

I have recently come back from Paris after being treated by Dr.Badois for DC. I have documented my experience at my website complete with pictures.

no more surgery...please!

I’m a 36-year-old male and I’ve had DC for about ten years. I’ve had two surgeries on my left hand and one on my right. It’s been about four years since the surgery on my left hand and three on the right. The surgery definitely helped the DC, but I scarred badly. Now the scarring is almost as bad as the DC! Nevertheless, the DC continues on and it’s time once again for some action. I’m very excited about the needle procedure since surgery is no longer a viable option for me. Heck, I'm always looking for an excuse to go to Paris, and here is one right in my hands!
