Dupuytrens and Vitamin E ??

Has anyone tried oral dosages of Vitamin E to help Dupuytrens Contracture? I've been reading quite about it in several places and was wondering if anyone has given it a try? If so I would like to hear any results you may have had.

E

I've been taking 800 IU for a few months with no noticeable improvement. Whether I would be worse off without it is of course impossible to say.

I've also tried rubbing in some of the oil from the capsules, once a day, but have seen no effect.

From information on various web sites I've deduced that there is some theoretical basis for believing that Vitamin E would help, and that studies were done quite a while ago - with inconclusive results. I haven't seen any recent developments or newer information on medical sites with regard to Vitamin E and DC.

I've also read quite a bit about topical Verapamil. However I have yet to see single a posting from someone with DC who has tried the treatment and seen significant improvement. My opinion is that the claims are unsubstantiated.

Thanks for your input JMH

Thank you very much for your reply. It was interesting. What I have read stated that 200-2000IU per day for a few months to see if it makes a difference. As you mention, who knows if yours would have gotten worse or stayed the same. I want to thank you again for taking time to respond. Best of luck to you.

Vitamin E

In Tubiana's DUPUYTREN DISEASE (2000, pg. 122) there is a section on using Vitamin E to control Dupuytren's.

"In the 1950s an increasing number of articles were published in the English literature, with contradictory results using this treatment. Whereas Thomson (1949), Le Roy Steinberg (1951) and others obtained satisfactory results, especially in diseases of short duration, others following King (1949) did not observe any positive results, even when high doses were being used (Parsons, 1948). It has subsequently been abandoned, although it is not clear from literature whether this was because of its lack of efficacy or because of its potential toxicity."

Vitamin E

Has anyone had any success with Vitamins E and/or B-6? Is there any harm to using the glycerin gel caps? Thanks, Rick

DC & Vitamin E

I have taken vitamin E for the last 15 years, I am 61, 13 years ago I started developing DC on my left foot, after 10 more years it started on my right foot, no operation on either. I am able to live with it with no great pain. 5 years ago I have my left hand operated on, all my fingers, (except index) and thumb was coming in better then 80 degrees. Two years ago I have developed it on my penis. I am still taking at least 1000mg of V-E every day. I am scheduled to have my left hand operated on again next month my third finger is over 90 degrees.
