Just been diagnose with dc
My doctor recently diagnosed dupuytrens contracture on my left hand. He ran blood work yesterday and is testing for thyroid problems and diabetes. Has anyone come up with a thyroid and dupuytrens contracture connection? Please explain. Thanks!

Thyroid
According to what I have been told there are several medical conditions which act as indicators for dupuytrens. This dosen't mean that they cause Dupuytrens or vice versa, just that if you have one you are more likely to have the other. It also doesn't mean they don't although you will see speculation that there is a causal relationship. I have been unable to find any studies indicating such causal relationship.
The ones I have been told about are Thyroid, Liver Enzyme, Diabeties (sp), and Phenobarbital usage (used to prevent seizures). I do have Dupuytrens, bad, and have been tested as negative for Thyroid, Liver Enzyme, and Diabeties. I do take Phenobarbital, but since it is to prevent seizures after brain surgrery, it isn't considered in the same category.

Duyputrens and thyroid
Interesting topic...too bad it has to be me that has it. LOL Anyway...I remember my Mom having Dupuytrens contracture of her pinky finger. I can remember it being "curled." My brother has Peyrones disease and has hyper-lipidemia. My lipids are normal, but I am hypothyroid, 53 yrs. old and have palmar fasciatis...nodes about my right ring finger with new nodes to the middle and pinky finger. Corelations? who knows. Not sure what can be done, but surgery doesn't sound like it offers much in the way of riding oneslef of it??? Suzanne

Duputren~sq~s
This is interesting, as is the disease itself, medically speaking. Both brothers and myself contracted Dupuytrens through our father. Our mother is Dupuytren-free yet she has been on thyroid medicine for decades.
Other curiosities: 1) None of us have curvature/bending of the finger symptoms--and hope we never get that affliction--time will tell 2) All four of us have (had) Garrods pads but Dad's disappeared suddenly in his mid-sixties 3) My younger brother and I have Ledderhose, but my older brother and my father do not.
Strange disease, to say the least.

Duputren~sq~s
This condition can be crippling I have seen it. There can be fingers clawed into the hands. I at the age of 64 have mild symptoms in both hands both involving the tendons to the ring finger. Mal FRCS

Thyroid and Dupuytren~sq~s
Last year I noticed my first "lump" on my palm. I am a white, female, 59 y/o with no genetic link to the disease to my knowledge and I am Ukranian and Russian so I don't really fit the profile. I am now getting more "lumps --nodes" in my palm. I did have surgery to remove the first one so the doctor could see what it was. I have, also, been on Thyroid medication for 6 years for hypothyroidism, and have had plantar's fasciaitis, myofascial syndrome, dry eyes, a bout of alopecia and a "non-specific" auto-immune disease (not scleraderma or lupus). Can anyone recommend a physician who could sort of link all this together? What kind of a physician would you even go to? A rheumatologist, an endrocrinologist???

Hypothyroidism and Dupuytren~sq~s
I have Dupuytrens with both small fingers curved and I have also been diagnosed as hypothyroid without treatment for either so far. Today I discovered a relationship between the two at www.ncbi.nih.gov/entrez/query or under www.pubmed.gov. It's a service of the National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health. I entered Dupuytrens and found it. Dupuytrens was commonest in hypothyroid patients 21.7%.

Hypothyroidism and Dupuytren~sq~s
I was diagnosed 5 years ago with hypothyroidism, and I'm on medication. Last April I was diagnosed with Dupuytren's....nodules in both hands, stiffness and pain, but no contractures.
What is the correlation between hypothyroidism and Dupuytren's?

Hypothyroidism
Hi Barbara
this is an interesting subject. I googled dups and hypothyroidism and came up with a link to diabetes etc. Plenty of infomation exists on Google which links your condition to Dups and therefore increased likelihood of contracting this disease.

Hypothyroidism and Dupuytren~sq~s
Thanks for the information....I did Goggle and found quite a bit of information....also that diabetes has a similiar connection.
Because there seems to be a "link" between the two conditions, what can be done to treat the hypothyroidism that could influence the progression of Dupuytren's? And, the same for diabetes.
Has anyone followed any particular diet that has helped?
Barbara
