They are still going for nodule surgery when it exacerbates the D/D condition. Leave the darn bumps alone. They may never get worse.

Sounds like what Donna is talking about is extreme and unusual Dups pain, not your run of the mill aching many of us have. I have an acquaintance who's pain was so bad that she had some sort Open surgery. She was more motivate by the *pain* than a contraction. She had a hard recovery but it eventually solved her pain issue and she had no reoccurrence 10 years later. Now, that was *her* particular case. Personally I'd try NA first and if that did nothing for the pain, then consider surgery. Open Surgery can be a can of worms in my view so this would be a hard decision if I were in Donna's gloves. After almost 2 years I have more pain from the surgery than I've ever had from Dups tissue.

If all Donna has is nodules, obviously NA is useless, as I'm sure your're aware that NA only serves to weaken contracting cords which then can be snaped from external pressure.

From Eaton: "What happens to the nodules? Nodules soften up from two effects. They soften after the tension has been relieved from cutting cords attached to them. They also soften after being injected with a small dose of a long lasting cortisone. The softening and flattening takes place over month or two after the procedure."

If Donna has no cords contributing to her pain, perhaps the cortisone injections would be helpful. I doubt any surgeon would operate just to remove nodules. They are hesitant to operate at all until a contraction approaches 45 degrees.

My nodules were mildly painful during the period when I first became aware that something wasn't quite right with my right hand. Didn't last too long.

I quit glucosamine at that time for a couple of years. Late last year I tried it again, I don't have any contracture, and the nodules came back to life. Very definite linkage between glucosamine/chrondroitin and DC. I quit after a couple of weeks and they have returned to their dormant state.

It's best to have a doctor look at it. DC like any other medical problem requires a medical doctors diagnosis.
