Painful

I developed dupuytrens 2 years ago, after hand surgery. It was very painful at first and occaisionally is still painful. I have large nodules in the palm of my hand and runners going to every finger. The palm of my hand has contracted dramatically. The difference in the size of my hands is very evident. Everything I read, tells me this is a painless disease, but my hand still hurts, sometimes more then others. It is now starting in my other hand. My sister and my mother, both have DC, but theirs is not painful.

Non-Surgical Cure ?

Hope you can help!

I’m new to the Dupuytren's Forum, but not to Dupuytren's that showed up about 10 years ago. Had surgery on my left hand 2 years ago but Dupuytren's is now back in the L hand worse than ever. So I know from experience surgery is only a stopgap.

I know about the French Needle so I am very interested in info about non-surgical cures. Question:

1) Are there any legit non-surgical cures? Who and where?
2) Is the SUNY Stony Brook cure near going public? Any info on the status?
3) Are there any doctors (or anyone else) doing injections? Who and where?

Please help with any info you have. I don’t want any more surgery!

Thanks.

Pain with Dup.

D Beason:

Right now the "French Needle" or "Needle Aponevrotomy" is your only available option to surgery. Collagenase injections are at least two years away (if at all) For more info on what is refereed to as "NA" see:

http://www.handcenter.org/newfile16.htm

Five US surgeons are now doing NA.

For me, the Dupuytren's on one hand had no pain prior to surgery, while the Dupuytren's on my other is painful. Go figure.

Pain with Dup.

Yes, I have pain. But only for the last couple of months. For over a year since I was diagnosed ( after trigger finger operation on the same finger) I had this, but with no pain. All off the sudden, there is pain and swelling. Both in the finger, and the hand below the finger. The cord is bigger too. I can see that it is starting to constrict. I massage it alot, and that seems to stop some of that for a bit. But, the pain in using the finger is getting to be more and more a limitation in using that hand. I raise horses, and have lots to do with my hands. I am thinking the development of the pain and the slight curve of the finger means I will be making an appointment soon.
However, I have a friend, that has had this for over 45 years, and he has the pain that I am talking about. He says he does do a big routine of massage twice a day on his hands. He is still kicking with it, but, In Pain.
My hand surgeon also said this was a PAINLESS disease. WEll, THAT is not what I have found. It is painfull, and very hard to do things .
He also said, it had nothing to do with the trigger finger, but, seems funny to me, it arrived right on the end of that, and on the same finger. Which leaves me to believe, that if you have the genes, and have trama to the hand, it increases the probablity that you will get it.
Yes, Pain, and it is not nice.
