Another Doctor in Calif performing N.A.

On Feb 1st Dr David Evans a certified hand surgeon at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento sucessfully performed needle apoeurotomy on my left hand. This was my second N.A. treatment, my first was in Paris with Dr Lermusiaux in May 2004.
When I first approached Dr Evans about N.A. he was reluctant because he normally performs surgery for Dupuytrens disease. I shared information about several websites that he could research to learn more about this procedure.
After he had a conversation with Dr Denkler he agreed to perform N.A. on my hand. He has not been Paris Trained.
I had a follow up visit with him yesterday and he told me has performed N.A. on three other patients.
Kaiser Permanente is an HMO and he will only be treating patients that are Kaiser members.

Free Kaiser for Life

Al,

You have done something very few of us have been able to achieve. Yes, we need to give some credit to Dr David Evans for actually considering the idea that his patient *might* know something important about Dups treatment that he didn't. And, granted, it's getting easier to show them the data and the web sites. However, I think you're perhaps one of three who have directly influenced their CHS to study and perform NA. Wow!

Congratulations.

Hopefully there are some other Californians in the Kaiser system that could ask to be treated by Dr David Evans of Sacramento. That could turn some heads at Kaiser. Eaton estimates that "the majority" of Dups patients can use NA to avoid OS entirely. When the accountants down at Kaiser figure out how much the company can save by making NA the initial procedure of choice, the'll be jumping up and down. Al, you should get free Kaiser for life for what you have done :)

To Al

This is a reply to Al, who started this topic.

First, your approach to Dr. Evans was both superb and effective. It should provide an excellent "role model" for others interacting with their physicians!!!!

I'm presently the very unofficial keeper of the N.A. list and would like to contact Dr. Evans to see if he would like to be listed, with an indication that he only treats Kaiser patients, if that is the case.

Before I do a big research project to track him down, I wonder (if you're still following "the forum") if you have his e-mail address, which would make this an easy task for me?

Thanks for any help. And thanks for what you did!

Susan

Dr. Engel at Kaiser SF also does NA

Dr. Gordon Engel at Kaiser, San Francisco has begun doing NA on people with Dupuytrens. He is very knowledgeable, skilled and compassionate. He corrected one of my fingers a couple of years ago in a surgical procedure that worked quite well and left no scarring. But, he has decided that using a surgical needle is a bit less invasive and is now doing that procedure.

Dr. Gorden Engel

Dave--thanks for the heads up about this M.D. at Kaiser S.F.

Do you think you might be able to contact his office to see if he would like to be added to the list of M.D.s offering N.A.?

I'm the very unofficial keeper of The List. If he wants to be added I can add a note that he only treats Kaiser patients (or whatever info. is appropriate to his situation).

Meanwhile, I do know of an elderly woman in the Bay Area with Dups who is in the Kaiser system and will make sure she gets the info. (I just sent her some info. about N.A. a few days ago, so timing is perfect!!!)

Anyway, thanks for sharing this information in your post!

Susan
