Choice of Surgeon - Travel Time

Tommy:

I certainly understand your perspective.

We all want a lot of experience in a surgeon.

But, even if a patient travels a great distance to have a procedure done by a particular NA surgeon, it's still helpful to have as part of his/her team an experienced NA surgeon whose office is closer to home.

Furthermore, Dr. Eaton in Florida has more NA experience than any other US surgeon. Plus, he has a terrific reputation.

Does that mean that every last one of us should head out to the East Coast to consult with Dr. Eaton?

Or, to follow the logic further, does it mean that we all should just fly over Florida & not stop until we hit France?

After all, the most experienced NA surgeons on the planet are in France.

If I lived on the East Coast, I’d probably be headed to Florida right now. Perhaps I'd even schedule a trip to the City of Light across the Big Pond.

But, I have three children, a wife, and a job in Southern California.

I also know that I'm probably going to need multiple NA procedures over the years.

So, for me at least, the prospect of racking up humongous numbers of Frequent Flyer miles traveling to Florida to see Dr. Eaton is not attractive.

Instead, I count my blessings that we Californians have Dr. Denkler, and now Dr. Benhaim, right here in the Golden State.

If nothing else, let's all be thankful that we're starting to get more options.

NA in L.A.

Mark,

Your points are well thought out. Considering Dr. Benhaim's stellar qualifications how many NAs may not be an issue. Yes, we have to weigh our options and draw our own parameters. At the present I prefer to go with the most experienced within a 400 mile radius.

Also, part of me just wants an excuse to visit San Francisco and wander Golden Gate Park and pretend I'm 19 again watching the Dead and the Airplane in that glorious Spring of 69.

NA in San Francisco vs NA in LA

Dr. Kline is also a good choice for the western region, especially NorthWest coasters. His numbers are up around 200 at this time and he's Paris trained.

There are options!
Great to have to make a choice, isn't it? :)

NA in San Francisco vs NA in LA

Tommy:

I must agree that any excuse to visit San Francisco is most welcome.

But, I'd rather see that beautiful city under circumstances where my hands aren't driving me batty.

Let's all just celebrate the fact that as NA is taken up by more & more outstanding surgeons - whether it Denkler, Benhaim, or someone else - we will have more & more options open to us.

Isn't that terrific?

All the best.

NA in Los Angeles - Dr. Benhaim Suggested

After watching the DC in my right hand worsen over the years I consulted with an orthopedic hand surgeon. He only performs the traditional operation--but would not recommend it for me, as my tendons tend to "freeze up" when traumatized. Last year I broke my left wrist and developed a mild case of RSD. So, he definitely felt I should not have traditional surgery. That lead me to NA It seems like a perfect match for me, given my various other conditions. My OT has met Dr. Benhaim and felt he was highly qualified and in the "upper tier" of surgeons at UCLA. I have made an appointment with Dr. Benhaim in August and will let post on how it turns out.

Mark

Thank you for the news of Dr. Benhaim. I wrote his number down and save it. When and if this returns, I will call. I do not want anymore surgeries if I can help it.

Dr. Benhaim Suggested

Carmen & Ann:

I really liked Dr. Benhaim when I met with him.

Those of us with DD who live in So. Cal are blessed to have at least one top-notch CHS who is open to NA.

Sorry about all the acronyms.

Mark
