Update

Hi Randy,

Well...it's done....I had my appt with the md for another evaluation. He did some finger wagging....then sent me off to the physiotherapist for an evaluation etc... The appt took about an hour and a half. My physio is going to be three times a week for three weeks then a reevaluation. My md says if there is no improvement he is going to give me a shot of cortisone. Ugh.

Wish me luck. I'll be thinking of all of you.

Take care for now,

Frances

Frozen Shoulder

Frances I do hope you have a better result than I did with physio's. I went to three physio's, and an orthopaedic surgeon gave me cortisone injections. I also went to other professional such as muscular skeletal. Nothing they did helped. I met a phsyio at a private function and she did not mince her words, saying that physio's had a shocking record with dealing with Frozen Shoulder. She was English and had practised in many countries throught the world including USA. The subject of Frozen Shoulder stirred her up - she was defintely a expert on the subject and she related stories of many people being disatisfied with phsyio treatment. It appeared to me she had strong feelings about her collegues taking money from clients and putting them through expensive regimes. I've posted before on this but her simple advice to me was get into a swimming pool and slowly do laps. Bingo - and very little pain!
Perhaps someone has had a better time with physio's but I do believe there are more simple remedies and cortisone free as well.

Frozen Shoulder

While in therapy for FS I talked to others who were also in treatment. They all agreed that though painful, recovery was almost assured with a good therapist and doing the exercises at home. I had a 100% recovery over three months. No shots of any kind, though I recommend pain killers when the therapist is working you over. No pain, no gain of range of motion. You will not die from the pain, and you will recover.

Frozen Shoulder

Dear Randy and Graeme,

I've been doing stretching excercises at home like mad - even getting my daughter to gently stretch the muscles after they were sufficently warmed up. I've also picked up a book for one of the local rec centres to see what their swiming schedules are like. I am a good swimmer but haven't swam for a long time because I have to be wary of getting pool water in my sinuses. I have a birth defect that has been surgically corrected but my sinuses still don't drain properly and they truely do hate chlorine.

Anyways, tomorrow at 7am is my first physio so I'll have a better idea of where this is going after that. Say a little prayer for my aching shoulder.

See you later,

Frances

Don't do anything "like mad". You can make things worse - as the therapist cautioned me repeatedly. There is a limit to how fast you can safely regain ROM. It takes as long as it takes.

Physio went well. Didn't even hurt too much...not today anyways.

Frozen Shoulder

Francis,

If you're anything like me, you will not be willing to push yourself at home nearly as far as the therapist will while your lying on her table. Don't worry, you don't
really need to. But do get the pulleys and do your thing. Also, it will seem like there is no improvement until eventually something will break loose and you'll make rapid progress. Hang in there.

Randy
