NA procedure

No frances I have not been paid to talk here. I have severe DC in my hands and I am going to Dr. Pess for the procedure soon. The VA doctor where I live has been trained but has no patients worked as on yet.
I posted information because people like US with DC need to know where doctors are.

Richmond, VA
Dr. David L. Cannon was trained in California
804-730-2121
Dr. Sanjay S. Desai was trained in D.C.
804-288-3136
Both doctors were trained by the first leading doctors of this procedure and now have Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery.

Exactly Who?

Lori:

I believe that there is a "Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery" having to do with Open Surgery (OS) for Dups, but none for NA in particular.

Meanwhile, there are three surgeons known to be willing to personally instruct others in NA: Eaton/Denkler/Press. Which of these did Cannon and Desai train with? If your reference to "D.C." is the instruction at the recent ASSH meeting, Eaton is clear that he doesn't consider that enough to jump right into NA. At present, of the MDs listed here as NA practitioners, only Dr. Bourland has never had this kind of personal training and appears to be mostly self taught.

Over the years the majority opinion here is that we would prefer an MD who is French Trained or trained by someone who is. Here is why:

While NA is not Rocket Science for a CHS, many of them are taking a wait and see attitude because of their persistent fear that this "blind" procedure could be dangerous to nerves. Therefore, those who do jump in need the highest probability of keeping the rate of NA nerve damage *lower* than for OS. NA's reputation is still on the line.

CHS are still scrutinizing NA and will for a while. We as patient advocates must *likewise* scrutinize new surgeons entering the field.

(I am not implying that Dr. Bourland is not *highly* qualified to do NA, simply that we meed to be responsible to publish what we know about the MDs listed on this Forum)

Conservatism in NA Docs

Randy:

Thanks for the thoughtful post.

I agree that we want NA Docs to proceed cautiously, so that we don't jeopardize the overall reputation of NA.

That's one of the many things I like about Dr. Benhaim.

He's open-minded, but he's not going to do anything stupid.

NA for DC

Doctor William Bourland, Certified Hand Surgeon, has had NA instructions from Doctor Charles Eaton. Also, he was and is the second physician in the USA to perform the Needle Aproeurotomy following Doctor Charles Eaton.

NA Procedure for DC

Eddie: No lack of courteous respect for your comments, however, it isn't (my opinion) furthering the cause and information keeping patient with DC updated. Do you reason by induction or deduction in the objectives that this forum is intended to motivate? Remember, the memory works on impressions, association and repetition. This is essential in keeping information on tract for knowledge of those on this NA for DC journey. Your commemts are welcome whatever they may be. Thank you for taking notice. It caught your attention, so my comments were effective in getting your attention. Perhaps it will do the same for others that are interested in the NA movement in the USA. I appreciate your thinking and opinions, Straight ahead with NA for DC.
