I believe I have this disease! Just asking questions.
Hello! I have enjoyed viewing the posts here. I am 55 years old. In the last 6 months have started having ring fingers on both hands contract. Has gone from occasional times a day to often depending on what motions I do. The contractures are now all the way to the palm. So tight I have to work hard to get them to let go. When they do pop loose after me pressing on the joints with my other hand, I have extreme momentary pain as they pop back into normal form. Almost feels like a dislocation of the finger. Grasping, and squeezing can throw me into a contracture. Turning to open bottles is painfull or any gripping. I have never noticed any nodules on my hands but I have arthritis and my palms are sore at ring base if I manipulate there i noticed. So I seem to be backwards from what I am reading. I started with this contracture not with nodules. Is this something some of you have?? I have fybromyalgia. I have read somewhere that this might be immune system related also. Which goes along with what some of you are saying. I noticed one of you mentioned seeing a rheumatologist. Is there a relation to these two diseases??? Anyone out there have both??? I am considering going to the doctor with this. After you are diagnosed with this can your insurance company drop you because of it??? If you have to change insurance for some reason, can you get more insurance because of this disease?? My family is not of nordic decent, however my mother's parents had german decendents. Does that count??? What if that profile is not correct. Do folks get this not of nordic decent?? Just questions!!!! I have researched and have not found any other disease that fits. Any information or ideas would be so much appreciated. Thank You!

Cindy, I don't think you have Dupuytren's. Of course that is just my opinion from your description. A medical opinion certainly would be better than what you will find here. Dupuytren's does not just snap back to "normal" without cutting the cord, which is often mistaken for a tendon. In my case if I were to have bent my finger back to normal, you would still be hearing me screaming, and that was three years ago that I had surgery.

Dear Cindy,
Don't guess - get a diagnosis from a hand surgeon.

Trigger fingers pop and snap free. You might get a cortisone shot or a needle treatment for this. You should see a hand surgeon.
