i had the digit widgit

I heard there is a pinning technique intended to curb progression of DD. It is named "didgit widget" apparently, and made in Sacramento CA. I am interested in learning more if anyone has info.

Here is the web page for details of the digitwidget. Think I would rather have NA. Digitwidget looks like old fashioned torture implement.

My reading of the Didget Widget thing was that it was being promoted as a way to get a critically contracted hand into a state where surgery would be possible. But it does cast doubt on the conventional wisdom that stretching is ineffective.

i had the digit widgit

I had surgery last december on my pinkie and the digit widgit was used as a part of the recovery. I wrote in to the website at that time but no one else posted on it. The device is made in Sacramento and was prescribed for me by Dr. McCarroll in San Francisco. Its purpose it to cause better healing by putting slight tension on the joint and tissue while providing greater mobility during the healing process. It is used in Dupuytrens surgery as well as other hand trauma. The company that makes it has a web site with quite a good bit of information on it about the device.

There is a small bar that is actually screwed into the bone during surgery to correct the dupytrens. About a weekafter surgery, you get a hand brace that fits around your hand with velcro. attached to it is a rod with a sliding connection that snaps to the screwed in bar. YOu wear it all the time for three weeks and most of the time after that. Its amazing how much dexterity you have - I am a ceramic artist and was able to do a fair amount of my work. I don't know how my surgery would have turned out without the DW but overall I think it was a good thing. I still have some curve in the pinkie but much less than before and good feeling and usage. I would be happy to share more information about this device. Diane
