Fingers Crossed

Hi Frances,
Hope you get somewhere will your project. I have just emailed the British SSH and asked if anyone will attend the US conference as we are sick of having to pop over the channel to Paris for NA.

Fingers Crossed

Graeme,

Yes, we should have a definite thumbs up or thumbs down on Eaton's presentation soon. I'm sure he's ready to move this forward, finish the NA project this Forum "dumped in his lap" (as he put it) and get back to a more regular practice of hand surgery.

He can't until NA is more widely accepted, and he doesn't want to wait the necessary FIVE years to *publish*. Nevertheless, "Somebody has to do this" is his attitude, and we should all be thankful he accepted the challenge. Lets keep our fingers crossed. He has the most to loose here because I doubt he'll walk away until the Mission is Accomplished.

Canadian NA doctors

Hi Marjorie,

If there is no presentation I will concentrate on one or two surgeons who I think might be willing to listen based on the research I have done on them, then the border towns that are closest to us, and finally the three private healthcare centers; British Columbia and Manitoba. These two provinces are as far as Florida for me so it would be better if someone from out there approached them - plus it would take less time overall. The physicians from the private healthcare centres are pioneers which is the sort of personality we are looking for.

NA in Ontario

Hi Bill,

There are no NA trained doctors in Ontario - only one in Quebec and there haven't been any reports about her work posted here - probably a language barrier thing. Its unfotunate, we need NA doctors in Canada.

NA in Ontario

Just checked my email and there is an article by the CBC on this clinic from Nov 2005 called 'Vancouvr Clinic a 'toe in the door' for private medicine' and explains the controversy around it. I guess we'll see more and more of this sort of discussion as privatized health care works its way around the country.

NA in Ontario

Update: Our Family doctor is no longer adverse to NA.

:-) If the ASSH allows Eaton to present we will approach our family doctor for a referal to a surgeon who is a member then go from there.

NA in Ontario

Second Update: My boss knows about what I do here and at his own doctors appt he asked about Dupuytren's and 'the needle thing'. The doctor knew about it, but said that NA needs to be repeated every 6 months so it's not as affective as surgery. A little misinformation but it's wonderful that he knew such a procedure existed.

:-)

NA in Ontario

Hi all,

I assume many of you saw my post in one of the other threads about funding a surgeon to learn NA. Well, after thinking about it for a few days my husband thinks it's not completely insane so I'll repost the idea here with some figures.

Potential costs to send a CDN surgeon to France....

1)Training.......................Free curtousy of Dr L
2)Airfare T.O in Oct06(post ASSH convention)... $1000CDN
3)5 Star Hotel is 230 Euros/night=$316CDNx7days..$2212CDN with taxes/tips???
4)Food @200CDN day in hotel @200/day.............$1400CDN
5)Limo to and From Toronto airport............... $100CDN
6)Limo to/From Paris airport..................... $100CDN
---------------------------------------------------------
Total..........$4,812CDN

Now here's the clincher......I think we should also offer to a) cover the cost of lost wages or b) make a donation in their name to a hospital of their choice. $5,000-$10,000? Husband and I don't mind doing the leg work but won't invest the time unless we know there are others who are interested in going this route. An apporpriate outside source would be chosen to handle the money ie: bank that is used to handling charitible donation events.

So...here we go....since a single donation is far less then travel expenses, we're willing to commit a minimum of $1000 at this point, any other takers?
