Couldn~sq~t Resist

J. T. C.,

I see no email address. How can we possibly hope to verify the veracity of your comments!!!. Who is paying you?......

:-)

(Sorry, I just couldn't help parodying the occasional ignorant skeptics who just can't seem to understand that something remarkable is happening just under the radar of long-standing medical tradition).

my NA treatment

I don't know what to say. All I know; for those who believe or those who don't, is I was there in Dr. Pess' office at 1:30 on Oct. 19, 2005 and received NA treatment. All I can tell you is what my experience was like and people can do with the information as they like. There were good things about the treatment and bad things. There were things I expected to happen and did and there were things that happened that I did not expect nor was prepared for. Those who want to ask, I'll be more than happy to give you a no bullshit straight-up answer about what it was like. That's all I can say.

NA in Florida

Jane,

I tried to e-mail you but your system wouldn't accept unrecognized names. You'll find countless mentions of NA in America on this site. There are now 7(?) doctors offering NA in the U.S. (though we are debating the NA experience factor of some). Dr. Charles Eaton studied it in France and brought it here a few years back. Simply punch his name into any search engine and you'll get his Hand Center site complete with before/after NA pics.

I flew there from California in February. My ring and pinky were approx. 30 degrees. After a 30 minute NA session they were completely flat again. I even played golf 2 days later.
Good luck.

Thank you

Thank you Tommy. Congratulations. I am going to make an appointment with Dr. Eaton right now. I have it in both hands but worst is index finger - left hand. I did hear from a lady( you can request to be added) who had three NA but now has to have surgery as recurence was 6 months. She was glad she did it ! Hope that dosn't happen to you or me. I wouldn't care how ofter I had to go back if I could avoid surgery. Take care, Jane

new NA doctor

Jon,

The new guy is Dr. Prosper Benhaim who works out of UCLA in Los Angeles. Dr. Keith Denkler brought it to our attention on 10-19-05. Dr. Benhaim went up to the Bay area to observe Dr. Denkler as he did several NA procedures.

Sherry, what NA was like

First Dr. Pess was trained to do NA treatment in France. He is a friendly, no BS doctor.

Since some DC cases are difficult and sometimes impossible to treat, I emailed Dr. Pess photos of my left hand. I did not want to drive 10 hours to Dr. Pess' office just to be told, my DC could not be treated with NA. My DC was pulling my left pinky down. Before treatment, if I held my left-hand palm down, my left pinky would be pointing straight down at the middle knuckle. It had also recently started bending slightly from the first to the middle knuckle.

Dr. Pess emailed me back telling me that although the way DC had affected my hand made it one of the more difficult to treat, he felt he could use NA and that I would see some good improvement. Three months later I made the appointment and another three months later I had the treatment. As soon has Dr. Pess looks at your photos and tells you he can use NA, you shouls call as soon as possible because it takes about 3-4 months to get an appointment.

It starts with a few questions and a brief physical exam of the hand. Then all the nodules are circled with surgical ink. Next comes some small injection of Novocain. The reason your only given a small amount is because when he starts cutting the chords he has to make sure he does not cut a nerve. Dr. Pess says if he touches a nerve it will feel something like an electrical shock and so as not to cut it I should let him know. When one is all numbed up he would not feel this electrical shock and a nerve could be cut. Fortunately I never felt any shock.

A few minutes later he injects all the nodules with cortisone. This hurt more than I expected.

The he starts cutting the chords that are causing the finger to be pulled down The best way I know how to describe this part is it feels and sounds like if you had some real thin wires inside your hand and they were being cut with a wire cutter. You can actually hear and feel the little snip-popping noises. This does not hurt at all.

The next part and is the worst part is the doctor just takes your finger and basically just snaps it straight. The sensation is like the wire being snipped that I described before except this time it feels like a bunch of wires being snipped all at once. It’s a cracking sensation. He did this snapping thing on me twice during treatment, the last one being the worst. I hate to say this, but it REALLY hurts. A lot!!! I’m a pretty tough guy and I’ve felt some bad pain in my life. My point being is I’m not some one who can’t handle pain. I wish I could say it hurt only a little, but I’m not going to BS you. It felt almost like somebody just took my finger and broke it. The good thing is this part is done very quickly and the pain subsides fairly quickly as well.

He next put some antibiotic ointment on your hand. Then he places a thin metal splint on top of your finger and wraps and tapes it. You’ll only need to wear this splint for two to three days. The splint is used because your finger has been bent for so long that when it is straightened back up it has a tendency to want to bend back down. The splint stops this.

Your given a pain prescription, shown so physical therapy things he wants you to do (I’m still doing them) and that’s it. You’re done. Treatment time from start to finish, about 20 minutes.

My after thoughts about it. Although I was hoping it would have been a little straighter, but compared to what is was, I’m VERY pleased. It is still slightly bent from the middle knuckle to the end of my finger, but not too bad. Like i said, it’s WAY, WAY better than what it was before treatment. Dr. Pess told me when he emailed me back after looking at my photos and again before treatment that he did not think NA would get it 100% back straight. I’d say it’s now about 80%-90% back straight. Dr. Pess also said he might be able to get it even straighter with another treatment, but wants to wait about 6 months.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely!! One should at least try it before opting for surgery. Well that’s it in a nutshell. If you want more details on any part I described or have any questions, just ask and I’ll be happy to answer. Hope this help, John
