Multiple NA~sq~s

Wolfgang asked:
"Does anybody know whether several NAs result in such thick cords that they become difficult to operate?"

I have had three NA's done on my same finger by Dr Eaton and have not found any difference in his effort to sever the chords--they do not seem to be any thicker--it just seems that they grow back faster.

NA

Randy,
I have always been "on board" for people having the choice. I always have had questions about the process and will continue to have questions in the future. Of course, I have always had questions about fasciectomies and fasciotomies, also.

Wolfgang,
I had very little pain following my fasciectomy. Did not take any pain pills. For me the experience was fine. My finger was 85 degrees contraction and now 4 years post surgery, it is 0 degrees contracture and no sign of Dupuytren's. What has surprised me is that I cannot see or feel any scar tissue. I realize I have a very good outcome. If everyone had this outcome, it would be tremendous.

NA in Australia

My husband just had surgery (3rd time)in his left hand and foot. The disease became apparent when he was in his early thirties. Not sure if this is usual ? Australia seems far behind in the treatment of Dupuytren's.

Does anyone know if NA is available in Australia?

Thanks

post hand surgery

Sean,

personally I had similar results as you had, maybe because I had carefully selected my surgeon (had to travel through half of Germany to get there). I am now 3 years after surgery, have 0 degrees, no recurrence on the operated finger, and my scars are hardly visible. When I show them to doctors they are usually admired (i.e. maybe this is not a typical outcome).

But still: the pain after surgery was considerable (I didn't take drugs), my hand was swollen for probably 1/2 year and until this was gone, I couldn't make a fist anymore. I still feel some blockage but that's no issue. Last not least: my surgery triggered six new nodules/cords that started to grow immediately after surgery and very agressively, understandably causing some panic. Only with radiation therapy I was able to partially eliminate them and partially considerably slow down the growth rate.

After surgery I had to promise my hands that I won't do that again, otherwise they probably would have refused service ...

Wolfgang
PS: I guess that does not fit under "Just had NA treatment a few days ago" -- sorry about that!

NA in Australia

Annetta,

you can find a list of NA doctors under

http://assoc.wanadoo.fr/f.badois-dupuytren/html/gblist.html

Unfortunately it does not mention anyone in Australia. That does not mean that there aren't any NA doctors because for the US only Charlie Eaton is listed and the US are better than that. So don't be discouraged, keep searching! I also understand that the NA technique is easy to learn. maybe you can motivate someone down under to embark on a new therapy?

Wolfgang

surgery

I had surgery in 2002 April,by a plastic so called certified in hand surgery. I hand in only the left hand middle finger and it came up after I had broken my left elbow.. Ugly scar where he did not sew flush, for some reason he lumped tissue in the center of palm. I always heal extremly well on any injury etc.. I wish I would have know of this new needle surgery.. Now my whole hand hurts, and it is now in the ring and little finger on my left hand.. I wear a jelly palmed bike glove when doing any work.. Really want to take care of this by nearest location.

The hand plastic surgeon who did was arrogant and I was let's say very un happy... I am fit and no slob and his attitude was I am an idiot/peon and he was the master etc..

Multiple surgeries...

Alan -- how far apart were the three NA's you had done in one hand? I'm curious as to how long the treatment lasted before you needed it done again?
