Paris visit

I visited Dr lermusiaux in Paris had the procedure and I am very happy with the results. Although its not 100% better. i still have slight curvature in my two affected fingers. But Dr L said it will improve with some stretching as the fingers have been bent for ten years. I recommend the procedure to all.

Regards

Straight fingers Ron.

NA in Australia, DC after injury.

HelloRon,
good to hear you had a good result and that I may have a reason to visit Paris some time in the future!
I've just started down this road of Dup.Have recently been diagnosed after it was brought on by shoulder surgery. So yes it can be brought on by injury / trauma / surgery.Absolutely no sign prior to the operation and has only appeared on the op'ed side hand.Nothing(nodules etc) in the palm just a tender spot near the palm heel. All fingers and thumb affected but much less on the ring finger.Odd.Large pad on the index finger PIP joint.Operation was performed in June 2005.
Interesting to read info on pirfenidone.

Regards
Peter.

Success From Dr Eaton

Dear All,

I am sorry I have not posted earlier on this thread, but here are my observations re NA.

I travelled to Florida and had Dr Eaton perform NA on both hands over 2 months ago.

Now I have almost straight ring s (was 55 degrees left hand) and a straight finger (was 35 degrees on right hand).

Both palms are still somewhat tender, but in fairness I have been back to work since day 2 of the procedure. If I don’t do any physical work with my hands (including typing all day) then the discomfort and swelling is vastly reduced. The nagging ache across the knuckles has totally disappeared, which is a real blessing. I have also in thew last 2 months sanded. Hammered, sailed, pulled ropes and generally used my hands like a “normal” person would.

The skin split after the release where the finger was bent and is still somewhat tender but with the application of some Vitamin E cream it provides some comfort, mainly during the night when the hands are immobile.

Would I go again…. Absolutely! Not only do I have full mobility of the fingers, the constant ache in the joints has disappeared, I can accept change from a shop assistant without a look of horror showing on their face, and I certainly can report I have more strength in my fingers.

For the Aussie people, please note I did nearly 6 months research including assistance from Colin and Graeme and apart from Dr Hunter-Smith found no Dr in Aus doing NA. Dr Hunter-Smith responded to my email but as he lacks clinical experience in NA so I opted for Dr Eaton. Read the posts from me in this thread regarding health insurers and whatever you do investigate whether they will support NA, not simply for the financial gain but also to bring awareness that NA is a viable alternative.

If you need additional information please do not hesitate to post on this thread and I will contact you.

Good Luck, don’t be afraid of NA…

Details?

Terry,

Congratulations on your NA! With how safe and powerful it is, it really is astounding how few outside of France offer it as yet.

A 55 degree correction to "almost straight" is one thing on a MCP (first joint from palm), quite another on a PIP (second joint). Therefore I think the details regarding what joint was corrected is important. Eaton's web sight states that with both NA and Open Surgery, the final amount of correction for a PIP *averages* 50%. So, a 50 degree PIP contraction is predicted to correct to 25. Did you beat those odds?

PIP correction

Sorry I have been travelling extensively so have not kept up to speed.

Both hands are (where PIP) so I guess I beat the odds! Although I had very well defined cords which made the release somewhat easier (I think). Actually I think there may have been some composite contracture which is possibly why the swelling/post operative discomfort is still present?

Still some swelling and immobile pain, eg wake up and the hands are sore where the skin cracked.

But let’s put this in perspective. This weekend I went sailing… I pulled ropes, I put stress on the hands, I acted “normally” the only thing I did which I should have been doing at all times as a nearly 52 year old is wear gloves, especially as I do very little manual work.

Am I disappointed in my left hand still having about 3-5 degrees… Nope, nothing is stopping me from living a full and normal life.

Had I had open surgery (even successful surgery) I would still be reading sailing magazines instead of actually sailing.

Thanks Frances and Randy H. for your posts, I am trying also to assist any Australian “survivors”.

NA in Oz

Thats great Steve I had a similar experinec in Paris. I didnt realise the little things I couldnt do such as washing my face and rubbing sun cream on my shoulders. Prior to NA i had to use my one good hand now I can use both.

I asked my doctor, who teaches NA in Paris why no doctor from OZ has been trained in NA and his answer was no one has applied to be trained.

Surely there must be some doctors in OZ who would be able to be trained, not only would they be doing a service to DC sufferers in OZ but it would be a very astute business move, I would imagine that he/ she would be booked out. heres for straight fingers regards Ron
