Question on pain
I noticed the palm of my hand was indenting and in months it started also on the other hand (Sept 03) Today I have pain in both palms but no visable contractures of fingers ;;(Just caved in palms ) Diagnosed with D.C. Is this the way it started for others?? Approximatly how long before fingers may start contracting?? My mother at 95 alive and well has these contractures but never called it anything but arthritis strange huh Thanks Jen

one year after diagnosis
Hi Jen,
Welcome to the message board. When I first learned of DC I started looking at peoples hands only to find DC was pretty common. Information on the internet at that time clasified DC as 'rare' and not often studied because it was an 'orphan disease'. It is my belief that DC was simply misdiagnosed as 'arthritis' and the number of DC patients out there is greater then we thought - just like in your mothers case.
By raising awareness....this will change and hopefully NA will become inexpensive and available to all.
Good luck with your hands
Frances

digit widget
Has anyone had surgical follow up using a devise called the "digit wigit". It attaches to a surically implanted pin and puts tension on the joint during healing to hopefully result in straighter longer lasting healing.
