Roaccutane/Accutane/Isotretinoin and Dupuytrens

Because Roaccutane/Isotretinoin (an anti-acne drug) does upregulate tgf-beta in dermal cells and high tgf-beta levels have been found in Dupuytren-affected-Tissue I suspect this drug to trigger Dupuytrens (in predisposed patients).
I'm 25, predisposed to tissue-disorders and diagnosed with Dupys one year after taking Roaccutane for 10 month.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks for answers

Accutane

Interesting. How many DC sufferers had bad acne?

Accutane

I had the exact same experience. I went on Accutane when I was 44 yrs old for acne cysts. Shortly there after, I observed my first knucle pad ( of course I didn't know what it was back then) I was convinced that accutane is what triggered my on set especially since it makes the skin over produce and it's also very hard on the liver. I mentioned the association to Dr. Eaton when he performed my NA 1.5 years ago. He thought there could be a correlation.

The good news is I don't have Zits anymore. Got to look on the bright side.

acne

I never had Acne.
My DC is gong at a galloping rate and I just had surgery after 3 NA great experiences w/Dr Eaton. Hopefully this surgery will delay episodes for a long while.

Accutane

My husband, father, sister, brother all had bad acne. I do not know about my mother-in-law or husbands uncle(both deseased).

Accutane

Dave, are you also predisposed to tissue disorders?
Does any disease of this kind run in your family?
How old are you now and how fast did Dupuytrens develop?

I think we might be on to something here.

Accutane

Sorry you other guys, but we don't need discussion here wether someone with Dupuytrens had or has acne. Acne has _nothing_ to do with Dupytrens.
Lets focus here on people who have taken Accutane/Roaccutane/Isotretinoin and develop a tissue disorder afterwards.

Accutane

Karl,
I'm presently 51 yrs old. I've had the tendency to develop the fatty cysts under the skin. Other than that, no other tissue disorders. No one else in my family has the disease, I did not know my grandparents but my mother did not recall either having it (my heritage is however Northern European).

The disease is progessing steadily but slowly, I also have ledderhose. I had the NA on my left ring finger and it remains straight, I can tell its in the rest of my left palm but its not too pronounced yet. Its affecting three fingers in my right hand (last two and the thumb. My best guess is I'll be visiting Dr. Eaton for the pinky in my right hand by the end of next year.

Sorry to hear you developed it at such a young age. Don't let it get you down. I still run, play golf, etc. and hopefully with help from Dr. Eaton, avoid surgery.

Accutane

I also took Accutane when I was about 24 years old, and started suffering DC at 40.
I always had tendency to suffer keloids.

Accutane

Dave, thanks for your answer. I think the fact that you developed your tissue disorders and had no family history of tissue-disorders could be an evidence that Accutane somehow can "wake up" sleeping genes which otherwise wouldn't have come to light (like in your ancestors).
Ledderhose also developed AFTER Accutane?

Ferni, thanks for your answer. Interesting that the onset of Dupys started 16 years after the medication. Please continue to watch this thread. Perhaps you can be helpful. Thanks!
