Statistics

I am curious if anyone has seen any statistics on how many Dupuytrens sufferers have it in both hands and how many get it only in one hand. I have it in one hand and wonder how likely it is that the other will develop it. After 5 years, no sign of it in the other hand.

both

I have DD in both hands. Dr. Eaton set the little finger of my left hand straight nearly 2 years ago. I have 3 nodes and 2 very bold bands leading to my middle finger of my right hand. This hand has had DD for 10 years with no finger bending at all.

chances of Dup~sq~s in both hands

According to various studies, about 65% of people who get Dup's in one hand will eventually get it in the other. Check out Dr. Eaton's website (handcenter.org), there's a lot of good info there.

DD on both hands

Though I have no statistics I can offer personal experience. DD started on my right hand. I had radiation therapy in an early stage of the disease when the nodule was very small. The nodule disappered completely and did not re-appear. About 10 years later DD started on my left hand. Hoping that it might possibly stop and disappear I had no treatment. After 6 or 7 years the ring finger was bent to an extent that I had surgery. Immediately after the surgery DD started on 7 other, previously not affected points in both (!) hands. I had radiation therapy again and was able to stop it in 4 areas. I am not sure what I will do with the remaining ones.
