Therapy

Therapy; although heralded as a panacea has not been proven as useful, especially after surgery. Succumbing to surgery after reading through the forum doesn't even require a response. Sorry for you, but good luck....

therapy after surgery

If you've had OS and your surgeon hasn't arranged for proper post op hand therapy, he should have his license removed. Even the best reactions to hand surgery require at least some professional evaluation to the progress of healing. Please, don't tell us you've had Dups OS and the surgeon has left you to fend for yourself!!

respone to theraphy

Joanne,

I had OS in Feburary and just stopped theraphy 2 weeks ago. The will have you do stretching to keep joint loose and also night casts to keep fingers straight. They can also do ultrasound to help break down the scare as well as massage. I believe theraphy is very important in order to keep scar tissue to a minimum. A lot of what you do in theraphy you can do at home. PLEASE follow your therphy homework !!!! It is important at least with my experience you have to get moving as soon as possible after OS to keep mobility on joints and to fight scar contracture... I hope this helps... J Ann

what kind of

I endured 6 months of therapy after surgery with absolutely no benefit. My hand remained as the day after surgery; debilitated.

My surgery

I had physiotherapy for several weeks after surgery (all on the British National Health Service). The Physio was booked by the hospital and was really beneficial; my left hand is as good or better than before. Now I'm watching my right hand curl up but I can still ride the bike ok so not desperate yet. The physio also gave me some gel dressing to put on the wound and reduce scarring and that really helped too.
