I (the real Frances) set up this topic so the troll could post here and leave the rest of the Forum alone.

God Bless you all.

Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury

Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury is the founder of the worldwide Yoga College of India. Born in Calcutta in 1946, Bikram began Yoga at the age of four with Bishnu Ghosh, brother of Paramahansa Yogananda (Autobiography of a Yogi, founder of the Self Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles). Bikram practiced Yoga four to six hours a day with six thousand other students at Ghosh's College of Physical Education in Calcutta; and at the age of thirteen, he won the National India Yoga contest. He was undefeated for three years.
At seventeen, an injury to is knee during a weight-lifting accident brought the prediction from leading European doctors that he would never walk again. Not accepting their pronouncement, he had himself carried back to Bishnu Ghosh's school, for he knew that if anyone could help to heal his
knee, it was his teacher. Six months later, his knee had totally recovered. Ghosh was a celebrated physical culturist and the first to scientifically document Yoga's ability to cure chronic physical ailments and heal the body.

Bikram was asked by Ghosh to start several Yoga schools in India. There Bikram came into his own. The schools were so successful that at Bishnu's request Bikram traveled to Japan and opened two more. He has since brought his curative methods of Yoga therapy around the world.

I practice yoga at Yogiraj Bikram Choudhury's in LA. I believe it is the hyperextension of hands and finger in yoga that may effect Dupuytren's Disease. We hold these postures for quite a while thus stretching fingers.

Could the hyperextension truamatize the hand? Can it stretch the cord? Has there been any success in treating DC with this method?

Perhaps you are right. Could yoga streaching offer an alternate to surgery?

I Wish that It *Did* work.

Over the years many many things have been tried to halt the progression of this disease. The use of nightly splints (8 hours) to keep the fingered stretched straight has, like every thing else so far, failed. Therefore, it would follow that the short period of time a person did Yoga stretching would not be of value either. The only difference is that a person's internal hand muscles are being used in Yoga, rather than the external force of a splint. Remember, the progression of this disease is highly unpredictable. Just because your hand is a bit straighter after consuming mass quantities of wild blueberries and whipped cream, there is little reason to assume causation. I'm not questing the overall value of Yoga, just the logic behind thinking it may be of value against Dups.
