It pays to thank people! After Huricanes Frances and Jeanne hit our area, I was so grateful for the full use of my recently released hand, I had to call Dr. Eaton's office. Micki, the Office Manager, happened to answer the phone. I told her how much I needed BOTH of my hands to handle the aftermath cleanup and how glad I was to have full use of both of my hands! She said that was certainly positive coming from someone who had been without electricity and airconditioning 10 days on the first hurricane and 5 days on the second hurricane!

She said she had some positive news of her own but had been delayed due to the 4 back to back hurricanes! They were in the process of making an announcement....which she gave me permission to share with the readers of the Forum...so dear readers, you asked for it.....you got it!

The medical way: observation, instructions, training, and hands-on.

I have seen many references on this site, where there has been an overemphasis on the importance of going to Paris for a week for a physician to be qualified in NA. As a physician, I can tell you there are many ways to learn, and a week's experience anywhere does not make you an expert. It comes from solid background, passion for what you do, caring for your patients, a natural desire to produce quality results, a constellation of inborn or learned talents that either you have or you don't, and careful study of the particular new procedure or treatment you are learning.

Learning is not about your pedigree, whether you went to Paris or not. I don't know any of the doctors who provide NA, but when I need one, I will not judge them so narrowly.

We desperately need more GOOD hand surgeons in the US to become trained and perform NA. I think we should judge new ones on their merit. If we strike them down without sound knowledge of their talent, we inadvertantly limit the growth of NA in the US.
